Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Food and drink/Michelin Guide task force

List of Michelin starred restaurants in Mexico has been promoted to Featured list status (kudos, User:Tbhotch!), so this is the best model we have for similar lists.

Here are some of the shorter lists that might be easier to promote to FL status:

@Hey man im josh: I know you like to work on promoting Featured lists, if you're looking for any candidates. No worries if you're not interested! ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:00, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm grateful that you thought of me @Another Believer. However, none of these lists particularly peak my interest. I do like the idea of doing sets of articles, but I'm Canadian. So, x in y state lists aren't something I feel drawn towards. I have so many other things I'd rather be working on / towards, but please do feel free to ping me with any other future ideas! I'm also always open to collabs :) Hey man im josh (talk) 20:38, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Hey man im josh Sounds good! We do have List of Michelin-starred restaurants in Toronto and List of Michelin-starred restaurants in Vancouver :p ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:27, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
As for featured lists, I think there are several candidates but in general 3 main items need addressing:
1. Bare URLs that are subject to link rot are common on many list items. If anyone knows how to run a bot program to clean up and fix, that would be a big leap forward.
2. The intro paragraph needs work on many of the list pages. We should use Mexico as a model.
3. Images. Many are lacking a high-quality image of ideally a current and one of the highest rated restaurant in the city.

Importance

edit

I was asked at Template:WPFOOD if there would be an importance rating. I didn't add it because foodservice excludes it (and I personally hate them as they don't work in large projects). I assessed all the articles. There are 100 purged pages at the moment but the total number of pages is around 1000, and I'm missing 300 head chefs, which makes this task forcé a small one. Before I continue purging more pages, which I can do by adding an importance scale, shall this project have importance rankings?

I thought that a good criteria would be:

  • Top: Michelin Guide, related people (founders, critics, editors) and "List of" pages.
  • High: Any current or historical three-star restaurants and chefs
  • Mid: Any current or historical two-star restaurants and chefs
  • Low: Any current or historical one-star restaurants and chefs
  • NA: the usual non-articles.

Any thoughts? (CC) Tbhotch 20:08, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

It's a good idea but given the project just began and we have a very small task force at the moment, I wonder if it's practical. Expandinglight5 (talk) 21:02, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tbhotch I think this plan makes sense, and would recommend you go ahead with it. Even if the task force is small, this sorting can be done over time. seefooddiet (talk) 08:17, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'd need some sort of consensus to request a change to that page. (CC) Tbhotch 20:45, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you make the post there I can back you up. seefooddiet (talk) 20:47, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I mean, it requires a more solid consensus than three opinions. (CC) Tbhotch 01:28, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Bib Gourmand list

edit

In the draft space: Draft:List of Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurants in Canada

Curious, should we create similar lists for other countries?

---Another Believer (Talk) 15:39, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm on the fence. My concern about Bib Gourmand lists is although some Bib Gourmand-rated restaurants may be notable, most are not and the question it would raise is "are we turning Wikipedia into Yelp?" FYI, the United States has nearly 400 restaurants with a Bib Gourmand rating. In addition, does that leave the door open to adding other ratings such as the Plate or Green Star rating? My opinion can be swayed and if others feel strongly about including them I think it's fine. If we do move forward with Bib Gourmand, can we create a Bib Gourmand symbol similar as to what's available for a Michelin star rather than having a green check mark?
Expandinglight5 (talk) 20:28, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I was a little iffy on whether it meets the criteria for a page, which is why i've kept it in draft space and haven't submitted it for review. I agree about integrating the 'Bib Gourmand' symbol into Wikipedia like for the stars - wasn't sure how to do that so I had the green check-mark as a placeholder. @Expandinglight5@Dtmich24 Is File:Michelin Bib Gourmand.png helpful? ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:29, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Looks good. Throw it into the draft space and let's see how it looks.
As for the decision on the Bib Gourmand lists, maybe we park it for a while until the task force has more members that can weigh in? Expandinglight5 (talk) 01:35, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Great! I just went in and integrated the Bib symbol on the draft page lists.Dtmich24 (talk) 02:03, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Isn't that logo copyrighted? (CC) Tbhotch 07:01, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Seems the image has been deleted. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:15, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Section in parent article

edit

Related Bib Gourmand currently redirects to Michelin_Guide#Bib_Gourmand, which has three sentences based on two Michelin-published sources. We should add to our task list expanding this section, based on non-Michelin sources. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:56, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Help identifying missing lists

edit

We need to create a list of missing lists needing to be created! We might start by reconciling Michelin_Guide#Guides ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:03, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

As a heads up I've started drafts on the Nordic countries next. I'll chip away at it over the coming days/weeks. Dtmich24 (talk) 02:07, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

For tracking purposes:

Feel free to add to this list, or strike once taken live! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:49, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Just submitted those 5 for review to go live - I have three years of data for each list (2022-2024) Dtmich24 (talk) 19:13, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Dtmich24: All have been moved into the main space! ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:43, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Perfect! Dtmich24 (talk) 01:49, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Was considering starting a merge request to have these all listed at List of Michelin-starred restaurants in Nordic countries, as that's how these are classified by Michelin. Thoughts? Utopes (talk / cont) 01:51, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm good with that if others are as well. We could format it similarly to List of Michelin-starred restaurants in England so that each country is a sub-category on one page. Dtmich24 (talk) 01:57, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I like the idea of the pages matching the publications but I think it's fine to leave separate articles. It's probably worth noting on the articles in the manner they are published by Michelin. Expandinglight5 (talk) 21:15, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think the standalone lists are fine. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:26, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'll move the above to the task list and then we can archive the above Expandinglight5 (talk) 04:55, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Style Guide

edit

I started the Style Guide for list pages. I created the first version of the style guide for list pages but have yet to create a format for Restaurant articles or Chef articles. I think this is a good starting point but I'm sure many users can add and improve to the guideline. Please feel free to add/change/revise as necessary or post any discussion items here on the Talk page. Expandinglight5 (talk) 00:18, 3 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Expandinglight5 Thanks for starting a new page. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:06, 3 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Upcoming Michelin Guides

edit

Just for tracking purposes, here are upcoming Michelin Guides which I am aware of. If anyone sees any others, feel free to add to this list:

Dtmich24 (talk) 17:53, 3 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Drag Race, there are two sections at the top of the talk page that do not get archived because they are used as helpful checklists by project members for ongoing tasks. This calendar strikes me as something we might want to 'lock down' at the top of the page, and continue to update over time. What do others think? Not required, just an idea. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:05, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
It's a good idea. Given the number of markets Michelin is in which is expected to increase, I suppose a calendar could become cumbersome. Perhaps specific dates over the next 30 days and the remaining items by quarter of expected updates? Maybe we could review a draft and see how it looks before adding? Expandinglight5 (talk) 21:52, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you!

edit

Just a 'thank you!' to all who have supported this project so far. It is so nice to see new lists and restaurant articles being created, more consistency among pages, and collaboration across the board.

Thanks again and keep up the great work! Happy editing, --Another Believer (Talk) 19:02, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, this was a great idea. Thank you for creating the project. I don't know how this compares to other Wikiprojects but it feels like a lot of progress has been made in a short period of time especially since there are only a few members to date. Expandinglight5 (talk) 21:48, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I agree! ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:50, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Article alerts

edit

Did someone request the deletion of Wikipedia:WikiProject Michelin Guide/Article alerts? ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:37, 21 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I did. It was empty and not working correctly. (CC) Tbhotch 00:15, 22 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok! Do we want article alerts, or are those only available for WikiProjects and not task forces? ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:17, 22 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia:WikiProject California/Los Angeles area task force/Article alerts exists so there's an error somewhere. We can work with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/Article alerts page if needed or until we detect the error. (CC) Tbhotch 01:49, 22 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good, thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:50, 22 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
