Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 20:55, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 22:39, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

ServSafe

A ServSafe article did exist at one point. I wrote it...but it has since been speedily deleted by an Admin. The reason was blatant advertising. I have put up a request to have the article returned. --Witbcoedus 19:50, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Foodservice

As much as I hate to suggest this, I believe that WikiProject Foodservice has all but been abandoned by everyone except myself and Jerem43. The other users have not made edits since either August or July and although I have revamped the main page, there has been no interest in the project and quite honestly I see no reason for it to exist separately from WikiProject Food and Drink and as Jerem43 and I were in agreement I thought I would make the proposal here properly before going ahead and disbanding the project, just in case there were any valid objections.--Chef Christopher Allen Tanner, CCC 07:47, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Just as a comment, I think that this suffers from a couple of problems. One is that "Foodservice" is a US-centric word - in Britain the term is unheard of, it would always be "Catering". The second is that it's a very 'fuzzy' term, a lot of the "concepts" merge with "amateur" cooking, and then there's a very separate bit to do with the businesses. Personally I'd rename this thing the "Restaurants" TF or Project or whatever, at least that is a precise and "international" name that is obvious to everyone, even those outside the business. All the 'concept' stuff can then be folded back in to the main project. IF noone's that interested in restaurants then that's OK, I think there's more important things to be getting on with within the Food Project in any case ;-/ FlagSteward (talk) 18:57, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Renaming

I think that the scope is reasonable and clear rather than fuzzy, as FlagSteward suggested, but I do agree that "foodservice" is a label that is not doing the task force many favors. My thought is that WikiProject Serving food and drink would be neutral, clear, and indicative of the relationship between this and WikiProject Food and drink. The present WikiProject Template would be redirected to Template:WPSFD. My philosophy with respect to task forces and working groups is that, if they are anticipated to have a long lifespan rather than a limited one, they function for most purposes as Sub-WikiProjects and can be labeled as WikiProjects; the relationship is far closer than Parent1/Descendent1-Parent1/Descendent2, rather more like Spouse1/Spouse2/Spouse3 (not that I encourage polygamy, mind you). Thoughts? --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 00:48, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Goodbye and thanks!

Thank you to those of you who have taken an interest in the project. Essentially, I stopped working here on the project because a) no one else was interested at the time, b) running the restaurant became bigger than playing on Wikipedia and c) I just became burnt out on the Wikipedia concept. As such, I've removed myself from the participants section. As to the comments of the fellow above, the original concept of this project was to provide resources for commercial and institutional food operators and "foodservice" was the best thing I could think of to describe everything. "Restaurants" really only covers part of the information I wanted to provide here - I wanted to run the gamut from equipment to best practices, to ServSafe, so on and so forth. So, now you know what I was originally trying to do with this. Let me know if I can be of any service. CQJ (talk) 08:48, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Template

Where is the template? It's showing up as a redlink now, with no redirect. Badagnani (talk) 08:52, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

What are you talking about? Be more specific, your statement is sorta vague.--Chef Tanner (talk) 05:44, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

My word, I can't remember which template I was asking about. Badagnani (talk) 05:54, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

The template has been subsumed as this is a task force. The task forces have been folded into the main template. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 05:56, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

OK, found it. On the main page (Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/Foodservice taskforce), under "Templates," it says "Banner to tag article on its talk page to associate with this project." That is a redlink--check it out. Can someone make it blue? Badagnani (talk) 05:57, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Invite for Wikipedia:Notability (restaurants)

Please drop by Wikipedia:Notability (restaurants) (and the talk page) to help and discuss the proposed guideline for restaurant notability! What is currently on the page is very much a starting point and your input and constructive criticism is very welcome. --Kickstart70TC 23:17, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

New article with COI and advertising issues

Could interested editors have a look at Papa Cantella's Sausages? It seems to be prety notable, but it's also being used as an advertisement. I'm not confident enough in the guidelines to know what should get cut out and what should be left in, so I'd appreciate others offering their insights. ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:58, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

User: Jerem43 has been kind enough to to take care of this. ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:44, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
I corrected the most egregious problems with the article, but it still needs work. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 19:51, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Wikiproject McDonald's

Based on Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Wikiproject McDonald's I have redirected the above here. Someone may wish to review them and see what should be merged in. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 02:41, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
