Local extinction

I've started an article on local extinction as it was poorly addressed in the extinction article. The contents are very rough right now, and if anyone would like to make the article their own they are most welcome. —Pengo 04:15, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Renaming

I would like to suggest to rename this project into Wikiproject:Extinct and Endangered Species. What do you think? --Melly42 18:38, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm not in favour to that, because its range would be too large. Besides it would than not include pages like Extinction and Local extinction. However, I would support a different Wikiproject on Endangered Species (if it doesn't exist already), but not the two combined. And you could also say that 'Endangered Species' fall under 'Extinction'. Someone else also an opinion? Peter Maas\talk 12:53, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Melly42, what are you arguments for renaming this project? Maybe I need just convincing... Peter Maas\talk 13:06, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, a different Wikiproject was my first idea too. But, why it would be make the range too large? We have a lot of endangered species which were not seen in years but are still considered as extant (especially newly discovered species), we have Extinct in the wild species, and we have lazarus taxa (i.e. rediscovered species). I think in that case it is rather difficult to separate the subjects. --Melly42 (talk) 13:37, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Project Banner

I have recently created a banner for Wikipedia:WikiProject Biology which has assessment parameters. I notice that your existing banner does not. Given the amount of overlap in the biology sector, and the concerns expressed elsewhere about the proliferation of project banners, I was wondering whether the members of this project would be interested in perhaps utilizing the Biology banner, with a "drop down tab" for this project, perhaps similar to the {{WPMILHIST}} banner. Doing so would permit for individual assessment for each project, as that is something the Military History banner does, while at the same time reducing the amount of banner "clutter" on talk pages. If you would be interested in such an arrangement, please let me know and I will work to revise the Biology banner to include the "drop-down" tab and make the other arrangements required for your project, as well as theirs, to have assessment data available. Thank you. John Carter 20:59, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm leaning into being in favour! What are the opinions of the others? Peter Maas\talk 13:05, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Although now I found the following on another "drop-down": See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Snail . Peter Maas\talk 21:36, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

"Extinctions in dependent territories of European countries" section

I have found in the article List of extinct animals of Europe the following section Extinctions in dependent territories of European countries. This is using a purely political term on a biological matter. As if it really matters what contemporary political situation an area has in terms of what extict animals there are in that area. I had assumed that we were using the word Europe from a geographical point of view. We could also remove Cyprus fossil residents from the list as Cyprus is not European geographically or perhaps the best bet would be to create a new article called List of extinct animals of Eurasia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Francisco Valverde (talkcontribs) 19:01, 7 May 2007 (UTC).

Peer-review of Evolution

Hi everybody, comments and suggestions on this core topic are welcome. Wikipedia:Peer review/Evolution/archive1. Thank you. TimVickers 22:35, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Palaeontology

Considering this page is about this topic, all my concerns will come to this page. So does anyone know anything about the American palaeontologist Roland T. Bird? Thankyou Enlil Ninlil 19:17, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Evolution FAC

Hi there, I've nominated Evolution as a featured article candidate, the discussion page is here. Comments and suggestions would be appreciated. TimVickers 15:41, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Chalicotherium...

...is in need of some looking at. I did what I could with the animal ;-) Expert knowledge either in mammal paleontology or wiki format is sorely needed. Thanks in advance. Dracontes 14:54, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Dinosaurs

Is this project focused on dinosaurs or recently extinct and before, or is it left for WikiProject Dinosaurs.

Well this project is focussed on all extinction-related topics, thus including dinosaurs. However the sisterproject Dinosaurs takes on that part for the most. It depends on the participants: some are more focused on recently extinct species, while other more on prehistoric ones. Peter Maas\talk 13:00, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
