This project is now back up and running.

Hidden project

edit

I have to say this project is quite hidden. I wasn't aware it even existed until today. I wouldn't be happy to join, despite having a strong interest in English schools. I just couldn't subscribe to either the aims or the minimum standards. The aims seem to be focused on the survival of the project rather than the improvement of the 'pedia. And wrt standards I don't believe that requiring a school article to show GCSE results is a good idea. For a start they change every year. Secondly, not every school sits GCSEs - 6th Form Colleges, Independents, primaries, etc. And stating coordinates AND infobox as requirements seem to be overlapping requirements. Coordinates are part of the standard school infobox. If many of these issues were to change, i might be interested in joining up. CalzGuy (talk) 10:05, 4 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

British overseas territories

edit

I took the liberty of adding schools in Jersey, Guernsey, and British overseas territories (Gibraltar, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Montserrat, Anguilla, and BVI - plan to do Turks and Caicos too). I wonder what you guys think about adding schools in Hong Kong in existence prior to 1997 (schools established post-1997, of course, shouldn't be added at all) or schools in the former British Empire (British Raj, etc)? Gobbet

edit

The page Gobbet contains a dictionary definition, which was copied to wikt:gobbet in 2007. I am considering PROD, since there is no encyclopedic content on the page at present. However, I notice that "Gobbet examination" is used in some programs, especially in history. Is there value in keeping this article in Wikipedia? Cnilep (talk) 03:53, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

As there appears to be multiple definitions, a possible alternative may be to create a disambiguation page with it. If that's not worth it, I agree that it appears better suited for a dictionary (WP:NOTDICTIONARY) unless we can find more to write about... —PaleoNeonate10:17, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
I don't see anything that a disambiguation page could point at. Meat is far too general and Butcher far too specific for the "small chunk of meat" sense. The nearest matches for the "chunk of text" sense might be Explication or Close reading, except that the former is specifically about analytic philosophy and the latter about literary criticism. Chunk is a disambiguation page, and nothing there matches either of these senses. I think deletion is appropriate. Cnilep (talk) 01:19, 29 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
