Team articles edit

@Disc Wheel: As with the French one I created articles for all post-WWII teams. What's stopping us doing the same for the Giro? @Seacactus 13: I noticed you created a few 'Giro-only' teams, so your input would be appreciated. BaldBoris 01:31, 23 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@BaldBoris:This sounds like a solid idea, I got some stuff IRL to do at the moment, but I'll get to work on it once I'm free. Disc Wheel (T + C) 13:38, 28 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
@BaldBoris: So my game plan is to go through each post WW2 Giro and link up the using the Cycling Data template Template function with the "ct|Teamname|Year" and see what teams do not have articles. In addition, I have noticed that some of the teams do not align with their name at the Tour, so I guess I'll add some a and b names to their Template Cycling data page. This is based purely on the sources I have for the races from newspapers listing the team names, rather than ProCyclingStats or a modern website (cause it seems PCS starts keeping track of the Giro's riders in 1963). What are your thoughts? Disc Wheel (T + C) 03:23, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Disc Wheel: The older teams already created are listed here, although there maybe some made since missing. As there was no codes back then we just use the common name. There are a few redirects for teams with two or more clear names. I can't think of any examples right now, so It will just need some trial and error. I think I've already set up the templates with the Giro names, like Helyett (cycling team) ({{Cycling data Helyett}}). BaldBoris 09:00, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@BaldBoris:You've always got the hook up! So as I work through these articles I'm going to try and make some of the team articles too, along with assigning the appropriate Ct tags to each Giro article. One thing I have noticed is that in most of the Italian sources I find for the teams, they do list Frejus as "Fréjus", not the Frejus that the page is spelt with. What have you run into with that regarding the Tour article sources? Disc Wheel (T + C) 18:32, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yea that's pretty much what I did with the Tour. I remember apostrophe problem. I think I chose it based on it:Frejus (azienda), although now I see it:Fréjus (ciclismo) uses it. Either way, the same must be used across all articles. We could start a move? BaldBoris 21:08, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'm thinking that's the way to go, I'll go ahead and get started on that.Disc Wheel (T + C) 18:22, 7 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
I think you've made a mistake in moving Wilier–Triestina (cycling team). I take it you did it just because some Italain Giro sources of the time did it? But who's to say they were correct? We can't have, and don't require, team articles to be named just to match what it was known as by the Giro media, or any other race. It's sponsored by a very famous brand Wilier Triestina, and I've never seen with a dash in the middle. The en dash is for when there's multiple sponsors (Wikipedia:WikiProject Cycling/Consensus decisions#Cycling team naming). According to the article, Wilier is an acronym of “W l’Italia liberata e redenta” (Long live Italy, liberated and redeemed). Triestina comes from Trieste. BaldBoris 22:53, 7 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
That's awesome, a pretty reason behind a name. Corriere, L'Unita, and Bike Race Info (although it is inconsistent) have all used the hyphen for the team. Could there be a chance they stylized the team name that way? (Not trying to be a smarta$$). I'm going to do some more digging for sources around the team's formation to see what it was announced as and try out other sources. Disc Wheel (T + C) 01:09, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Team was obivously soley sponsored or owned by the bicycle company, just like Legnano (cycling team) and Bianchi? If the company was "Wilier-Triestina" with a hyphen then we would have to name it exactly that, not "Wilier–Triestina" with an en dash. The 2017–2018 team Wilier Triestina–Selle Italia uses an en dash because it was sponsored by both Wilier Triestina and Selle Italia. BaldBoris 20:33, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
I understand, well I will move it all back right now then my man. Disc Wheel (T + C) 18:49, 13 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
