Capital punishment in Ecuador

The short article Capital punishment in Ecuador says "According to the Código Penal de la Republica del Ecuador, the only crime for which Capital Punishment is currently the sentence is piracy on the high seas." However, every other source I can find says that Ecuador has abolished capital punishment. I do not know Spanish, so I would not be able to read the local laws. Can anybody help? Articles need to be updated to use Infobox Prison

It looks like a significant percentage of the articles with invalid HTML are prison articles which had a strangely formatting infobox substituted in many many years ago. Proposal to Edit the 'Juvenile Delinquency in the US' Page

I propose to make edits to the current page titled ‘Juvenile Delinquency in the US’. Seeing as how important this issue is in America, I think the page is lacking a lot of important information. I plan to add the following sections: introduction to juvenile delinquency, recent statistics, the cradle to prison pipeline, and the juvenile justice debate, and preventing juvenile delinquency. It is very important to educate the Wikipedia world on this topic, and to show how much room there is for improvement. Showing the room for improvement, this page might have the ability of enacting social change and changing future generations of children for the better. I think that these changes are important to this wiki project because the current juvenile justice debate going on in the US is largely related to the punishment and correction of juvenile delinquents. I think that these additions would greatly improve the content that exits in the Wikipedia world that relates to correction and detention facilities. MariaNunez (talk) 04:10, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Outdated

All the statistics are outdated and the section for China includes a note that it is only sentenced prisoners being counted, not prisoners with no sentence who may have been there for years. Structures in the USA

It would be quite a project just to catalog all the prison structures in the USA. The federal locations could be gotten pretty easily from the BOP. State and territory almost pretty well (I think its important to include the Virgin Islands) Would you include the DoD prisons (Leavenworth, Ft Meade, Quantico) I think you have to. What about Guantanamo, Bagram, the Salt Pit, CIA sites... It would be nice but harder and open ended.

Locations of the SHU, CMU. Security levels. There is so much without even getting to people (prisoners) or procedures (mis/treatment) ( Martin | talk • contribs 01:55, 6 April 2012 (UTC)) To have a catalog of prisons throughout the world would be awesome. Would there be a table of prisons, that might link to the page for the particular prison? That seems like a natural type of control document. Table columns: 1. country(=usa), 2 responsible authority: (federal or state or territory, or county, or city), 3. name of facility (linked to wiki article)

en wikipedia has lists of prisons of every province of the People's Republic of China, all of them written by myself. it wikipedia has one single list

(it:Lista di prigioni e centri di detenzione nella Repubblica Popolare Cinese), which I did not create. I have created lists of prisons in nl wikipedia (nl:Gevangenissen in de provincie Guangdong and nl:Gevangenissen in de provincie Guizhou). However, other lists of that kind in nl. have been deleted with the deletion debate having included A list of prisons, which have no separate article and whose places mostly are not described, seems pointless, doesn't it?(nl:Wikipedia:Te_verwijderen_pagina's/Toegevoegd_20080809) Lists of Chinese prisons I created on pl and ru wikipedias have been deleted. G'day, Just wondering if it is appropriate for concentration and extermination camps to be included in this WikiProject? They really are strictly neither correction or detention facilities.

Including these articles makes sense to me. Is there a working definition of "correction and detention facilities"? Maybe they are "spaces where human beings are contained against their will"? I saw that the scope of this wikiproject is "All articles related to the field of corrections and penology" and wondered whether concentration camps and extermination camps really fit here? POW are not undergoing correction, they are being "interned for reasons of imperative military security". Same same for civilians that are interned. When those reasons no longer apply, they are released/repatriated. If they are accused of war crimes, they are usually transferred to a prison or similar facility awaiting trial. Extermination camps are clearly not for the purposes of correction. There are 5 concentration and 3 extermination camps that have the banner from this wikiproject on their talk page and I wondered why. There are dozens of concentration and several extermination camps from WW2 alone that are not currently included in this wikiproject. My current view is that they should not fall under this wikiproject, but I am open to being convinced otherwise. Peacemaker67 (send... over) 06:05, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Well, detention is also in the name of the Project. A lot of the most noteworthy US prisons do the latter, since they house people with life (or death) sentences, without seeking to correct or rehabilitate. Also, it's hard to get good information about what's going on in facilities where people are detained. People can get locked up for many reasons, so IMO it would be better to use a more concrete definition. groupuscule (talk) 06:24, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Well, we are still talking about part of the justice system. Concentration camps may be part of a "justice" system of sorts I suppose (like a gulag), but extermination camps really don't form part of any "justice" system in my view. Peacemaker67 (send... over) 08:52, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

The problem with "justice" or "justice system" as the standard is that it's not very concrete and not very global. As you say, concentration camps may be part of a justice system—from the Nazi perspective, justice is done by sending Jews to concentration camps, the judicial system is infused with socially appropriate values such as antisemitism. Extermination camps were a part of the same some system, not some separate alien project (as much Americans seeking to differentiate a class of guilty Germans in the aftermath of the war insisted on drawing the distinction—which is certainly not to say that there was no distinction, just that there were reasons for the emphasis it received). And then on the other side, would you exclude death row within the American system because it accomplishes extermination and not correction or even detention? This would be strange and difficult because "death row" is a more or less figurative place, incorporated within larger establishments designed to incarcerate. Moving into a more global/historical perspective creates more unknowns and reveals more motives for forcibly containing bodies in space. I think Elmina Castle was a detention facility, but not part of a justice system. I could ramble for longer, but let me ask you, Peacemaker, what you think is the downside to a broader definition, and where you think the lines should be drawn? all good points. Escapes from such facilities are also a potential area of expansion for this wiki project. POW camps and associated work camps too. I certainly think the scope question should he addressed by the wiki project, as expansion to include POW camps, concentration and extermination camps, gulags etc would result in a lot of extra articles falling within its scope. Perhaps it would be better to go wider than create an essentially arbitrary boundary. If a facility involves the deprivation of liberty, then perhaps it should be included.
