Tagging

Weird errors

But the recent changes section is such a nice thing to have! Plus, it shouldn't be causing these kinds of problems, thus I think something deeper in the code must be wrong, something with the recent changes page itself. I suspect other wikiprojects that use this are also having trouble with it, and it will be fixed soon. So simply removing it wouldn't be a good solution. Sephiroth, why did you change the Recent Changes list to the Software one? Also, I don't think we have a code-monkey around, and this seems to be more wide-spread that just this project. I guess somebody should notify the helpdesk/admins. --DanielPharos (talk) 12:30, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

There is an easy fix. Remove all ==/== and ===/=== codes. Replace ==/== with

Possible resource

I am the maintainer of the Archive of Information Assurance website ( http://iaarchive.fi .org and .info also forward to it) and I have on that site a collect of documents on applying TCSEC within a database enviroment (see books -> Trusted DBMS Interpretation) This is one of many collections of papers I am in the process of scanning and otherwise getting ready for publication. I think that updating at least the TCSEC pages with some examples of TCSEC applied to a complex system such as this might be of use, but I honestly am not a writer, and I have no clue what is the best way to do that. I had enough trouble going through and fixing all the dead rainbow series links, and adding links for all of my collection that was not there. (I'd be best at collecting the information no one else seems to know how to, and providing a critical mind for analysis of system design. I know many of the documents on my site are not great quality, there are a lot of scanning artifacts and missing OCR, but I am working to improve upon it.)Section9 Bateau (talk) 19:01, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Project scope

I was thinking about attaching myself to this project, but wanted to check the scope. Some people view security as being mostly issues of malware and viruses. Others might view it as software used for security. Still others might view it as things like OWASP and PCI. Do any/all of these fit what the project is trying to do? Computer Security articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

IT Baseline Protection Catalogs

This article currently is tagged for WP:COMPSEC, of which I am a member, but it also suffers from lack of notability. Furthermore, the Guild of Copy Editors, of which I am also a member, is looking at cleaning up the article's text, but that's not worth our effort if the thing will be deleted. So, should we keep it or not? There are several merge options available if we want it to survive as an example of one government's computer security policies. Per WP:GNG:

1. Significant coverage: the article presently discusses every aspect of the "book" from a "table of contents" perspective, which is not significant at all. This could be improved, but would not help the other GNGs.
2. Reliable: the article is primary-sourced, but does reference official documents available in several formats. It could be expanded (and reach significant coverage) to address history of development of the document (really the policy should be the focus, not the particular document), influence by other governments, influence on other governments, track record of maintaining defenses and the times that they failed.
3. Sources: again, primary source fails this rule.
4. Independent of the subject: again, primary source fails this rule.
5. Presumed ... like I said earlier, the article presently lists the publishing party and outlines the document

As I stated before, I would much rather see the content present in the article at this moment be included as an example of a government-sanctioned information/computer security policy, and seriously abbreviated from its current form.

As a comparison of a subject of similar form, take the US Federal Information Processing Standard. This article includes a wider variety of sources, describes the nature of the standard (the German article does this in the intro just the same), and describes its history and effects - that's what I would be looking for. –Paul M. Goatse Security

Goatse Security is the first article that I've written, and there isn't any clean-up templates on the article. I'm concerned that the lack of clean-up templates may mean that there isn't any experienced users looking over my work. I would like an experienced user from this WikiProject to help evaluate, clean up, and perhaps expand the article. WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). BS 7799

FYI, BS 7799 was prodded for deletion. I deprodded it because the rationale was that "BS 7799" was no longer a valid standard, it had been withdrawn. As Ancient Egypt no longer exists either, but we have an article about it, means that current standards are not the only thing covered on Wikipedia. 76.66.194.212 (talk) 06:26, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

I added some appropriate templates to the page, if you think it should be kept, you should look at seeing if you can improve those points. First of all the article needs a claim of notability. Its a standard, but why is it notable? Secondly it needs inline citations in accordance with WP:CiteSephiroth storm (talk) 15:43, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

As a widely-used standard for a whole subfield of IT, with various independent sources discussing it in depth, I think it would pass WP:GNG with ease. The current article text is not great but I would agree that the reason given for the prod was poor. bobrayner (talk) 15:04, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

FIPS 140-3

My reading of FIPS 140-3 is that there are only four security levels (not five, as stated in this article). I realise that FIPS 140-3 is in draft so five levels may represent a more up-to date picture of FIPS 140-3 but no citaitons on the page reflect this extra level...

I would edit and remove references to level five but I am new to the FIPS (and WIKI) arena and would rather discus this issue and check my facts before changing the article...
