Sports Family Categories edit

I am not sure where to post a question for this group. I have been looking at categories more closely recently. Today, I decided that there are a lot articles that would be more easily navigated if we developed a Sports family hierarchy (in Category:Families). I have started to fill in what I could not find out there in the section that follows: User:TonyTheTiger#User Creations in the Categories section. Can you tell me if anyone here would be interested in getting involved in Sports family categorization or if there is a good way to proceed in such an endeavor. Please reply to my talk page if you have any advice.TonyTheTiger 20:22, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

First take on what to do with the topical subsections here edit

I added some stuff to the "Cue sports (pool, billiards and snooker)" sub-section. Not sure if this is really what they are for, since it's not documented in any way. Also added myself to the totally empty "Members" section. By the way, I think that the "Directions for expanding any division below" section should be edited or removed, as it clearly was just imported from a level higher and doesn't seem to apply properly to this page. — SMcCandlish [talk] [contrib] 01:25, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Stephanie DeFina edit

Would anyone who knows tennis fairly well take a look at the this article. Is she notable? (If so, a good source for a biography would be great!). There is also Roberta Alison in the same category. Thanks! --Stormbay 20:54, 13 September 2007 (UTC) stephanie did not pick up a tennis racket until in junior high....natural athlete who did not have the coaching and or finances as a chris evert or barkowics.... yet what she did as a small statured natural in the time frame from 1960....to 1969 is unbelievable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.176.133.160 (talk) 16:58, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Daniels Holderby Cortése edit

This has your project's banner on the talk page, but I'm wondering if this was an error. The article is about a classical musician. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 06:40, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Jimmy Moore edit

I was dabbing all link to this article, and noticed that it needs updating to GA at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Biography (sports and games) articles by quality/1 , but it was to unclear to me how to do so: What do the dates correspond to and which permanent version should be linked to, thus, this post.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 19:07, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

DYK edit

I have just proposed the following "Did You Know" at [1]:

=== Articles created/expanded on April 30 ===

I am hoping that the fact that it includes references to two separate articles may be given some weight. Lindsay658 (talk) 23:47, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Help on finding infobox edit

I was working on the Gerry Bertier article and cannot determine what infobox should be used on this article. He was an athlete, but none of the infoboxes covers his situation and the Infobox person seesm too general. He was a high school football All-American who could not play college or pro ball due to a paralyzing car accident. He then participated in wheelchair athletics, including the Wheelchair Games. He was the pivotal character portrayed in Remember the Titans. Please help me determine what infobox would be appropriate. Thanks. Wildhartlivie (talk) 06:34, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm also being confused by the Infobox situation. With precedents like Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell, it seems the athlete infobox is not much used (about 70 articles) in favour of using a Medal Record box with image? The article that drew me on to this was Oscar Pistorius. I think the Medal Record box is more appealing and possibly appropriate (the athlete box has no space for medals?) at the moment. Vandalism of the Donovan Bailey wiki page edit

Someone vandalized the Donovan Bailey wiki page and wrote that Bailey moved to Canada at age 56. I corrected it, but if this keeps happening please take the necessary measures to prevent it. Thanks in advance. --190.10.76.226 (talk) 17:34, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

priority= parameter edit

Are there any guidelines on how to complete the priority= parameter for biographies? The WikiProject on Football for example, has an importance scale with a few examples. Is there something similar for the Sports and Games work group as a whole? If not, would using the relevant project's importance ratings for the workgroup priority be a reasonable rule of thumb to use? Thanks. --Jameboy (talk) 21:14, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme edit

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Biography (sports and games) edit

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Articles under GA review edit

Hello there, the articles Andreas Thorkildsen, Calvin Johnson (American football), Terry Bradshaw and Steve Evans (footballer born 1962) which fall under the auspices of this Wikiproject, have come under review as part of GA Sweeps and a number of problems have been identified and listed on the talk pages. If these problems have not begun to be addressed by seven days from this notice, the articles will be delisted from GA and will have to go through the WP:GAN process all over again to regain their status once improvements have been made. If you have any questions, please drop me a line.--Jackyd101 (talk) 18:06, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
