Proposed Template changes

(Cross-posted at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Basketball)

I've created two potential replacement templates for

so that if the parameter sex= is set to w, not only will it change the title as it does now, but also that it will suppress the weight column. Those interested in the use of the template for men's team are likely to have no interest, other than to confirm that it won't break any of the existing men's articles.

It appears to me that the results are identical. One minor challenge is that I had to add a new parameter to the Player template. I checked in case someone used the template and entered "sex=" to ensure that it properly reproduced the men's version:

Of course, the point is to do something different if the sex is set equal to w (or other likely values):

I plan to move the sandbox version into the main version, but I wanted to post here first, in case anyone has any concerns. I have not yet updated the documentation, will do that shortly.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 18:42, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Please weigh in on proposal to migrate college players/coaches to Template:Infobox basketball biography

  FYI

There is an ongoing discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College Basketball#Proposal to migrate men's college basketball players and coaches to Template:Infobox basketball biography. Please weigh in and help achieve consensus on this matter. Also, at some point I would like to explore moving WNBA players from Template:Infobox WNBA player to this same infobox (I expect that there may need to be some changes in how we display club history for women to accomodate the summer WNBA season) so could be interesting to start looking at pros/cons for female college players too. Thanks! Rikster2 (talk) 15:10, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

March Women's history Month

The last couple of years it has been suggested that in honor of women's history month (March), some sort of basketball initiative take place. Last year I suggested a push to create all red linked Women's Basketball Hall of Fame articles. We could do this, or something similar (all College basketball award winners, etc), but I think the chances of doing it increase if there is a planned effort. Thoughts? Rikster2 (talk) 23:07, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea, although I am completely open as to what we try to blitz. Women's Basketball Hall of Fame sounds sensible, while I also think having an article for every active WBNA player (who has played at least 1 game) could also be an option. GiantSnowman 12:45, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

Merging WNBA player and basketball biography templates

There is currently a proposal here to merge the "Infobox:WNBA player" template into the "Infobox:basketball biography" template (as has already been agreed to via the consensus process). Please weigh in on the proposal to make this happen. Thanks Rikster2 (talk) 00:11, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

All - please read the discussion linked above. Fields have been added to Template:Infobox basketball biography to make it work for WNBA players. Please begin using this template as the WNBA template is now being phased out. Thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 15:54, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Invitation to discuss naming convention for TCU women's programs

I just started a discussion at Talk:TCU Horned Frogs and Lady Frogs#Name change in order? to determine if the TCU women's programs – specifically basketball – still go by the "Lady Frogs" name or if they have transitioned to "Horned Frogs." Please chime in. Thanks! Rikster2 (talk) 13:57, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
