What now?

edit

What do we do now? Saadkhan12345 (talk) 01:10, 12 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Saadkhan12345: Get a few more people on board and try to get this running like the others. I'm focusing on the Africa contest at the moment but this can be publicized later in the autumn. In the meantime perhaps invite a few people you think might be interested?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:17, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Minor edits?

edit

@Dr. Blofeld: I thought we are not here to document every minor edits. --Mhhossein talk 12:14, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ideally not no, but Mrlink's interest and participation in multiple challenges is appreciated all the same.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:16, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

I would not sacrifice the quality for the sake of achieving quantity. --Mhhossein talk 12:26, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
I agree.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:45, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia Asian Month 2016

edit

During the whole month of November, those who participate in this challenge should also be in a position to participate in Wikipedia Asian Month 2016. The editathon pages are still under development but should be firmed up by the end of October. One of the main conditions is that articles should be at least 3,500 bytes or 300 words (excluding refs, etc.) and must be related to an Asian country. There is also a destubbing option.--Ipigott (talk) 13:50, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wow, I can't believe that was almost a year ago. It felt like the Asia Month challenge only took place a few months ago. I definitely think these two should be held jointly or merged together. Having one challenged called a certain name in one year and another name the next year doesn't allow brand recognition to develop. OhanaUnitedTalk page 06:40, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Article achivements

edit

How much expansion of an article is required before listing it under article achievements section? Pratyush (talk) 17:33, 16 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Up to you, 0.5 kb of readable prose and a quick cleanup would be acceptable PratyushSinha101.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:04, 16 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Okay, thanks. Pratyush (talk) 18:09, 16 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

@PratyushSinha101: What is preferrable is that items you list don't have any major issues left. Don't just add one source to an article which has dozens of sourcing problems and horrible tags on it for instance. The articles you edit should ideally be cleaned up and in a nice condition when entering here. Length isn't an issue, but general sourcing and presentation quality is. Aim for no unsourced claims and to produce "clean" articles. Length isn't important.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:14, 16 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

What time period is this, please?

edit

Hello, I see editors are adding to the Article Achievement section already, many created in the month of October. Is there a time period for the creation or improvement of the entries? Thank you.--Bonnielou2013 (talk) 04:34, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Bonnielou2013: there is no time period for the challenge. As mentioned in the page, this challenge/editathon aims for long term. Basic idea is to create or improve Asia-related articles. Pratyush (talk) 05:54, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, all the best.--Bonnielou2013 (talk) 06:26, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Bonnielou2013: Anything created in October is permitted, but the emphasis is on quality improvements long term which are being done for this.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:43, 21 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Where do I list an article once I've created it?

edit

Please help me answer the topic title question. Appreciated.--NadirAli نادر علی (talk) 20:50, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

List it at the bottom of the list on the main page at the bottom and put the country in brackets.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:41, 21 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

One question

edit

I"ve created an article (Beit Qad) on the 15th of October. Does it count?--Bolter21 (talk to me) 21:11, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Yes, anything done in October is elligible.

Focus on quality

edit

The 10,000 Challenge for the UK originally began as a Welsh national contest where the aim was more on core and quality article improvement. For this we'll accept stubs as we do for Africa, but I would be grateful if people could try to ensure that all new articles created are well sourced, no unsourced claims. I would also like to see editors working on existing article quality, improving sourcing is really at the centre of what is wanted here. Happy editing!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:40, 21 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

I think idealy, all users should try to make their new articles reach DYK. One article I started in this project reached DYK, while the other took me more than 7 days to expand. Now I am expanding an article about Hamed Abu Daabas and it would probably be good for DYK. The process includes clean up and improvement.--Bolter21 (talk to me) 18:42, 12 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

How to?

edit

How to start a similar project for India? -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 08:26, 1 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'd be happy to start a Challenge for India in its own right but when I brought it up before barely anybody showed an interest. It would need strong support for a larger challenge. Later in the month perhaps.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:20, 1 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

One thing that I think would be extremely useful for all such challenges is getting together information about what topics are covered in recent specialist reference works on the topics. Those topics would also, presumably, be among the more central or important topics to that subject area, and it would probably also help editors find sources for articles and structure articles if they had a basic source to work with which already discusses the topic. John Carter (talk) 16:04, 28 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
I suspect you would get a raft of poor WP:FORKs using slightly different titles from articles we already have (bios somewhat apart). Johnbod (talk) 04:52, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

The Asia Destubathon

edit

@Chongkian, Miyagawa etc. Tell me guys, if I was to design an Asian Destubathon like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, do all of the work in drawing up the contest and article lists, but allow multiple people to run it to make it easy to run together, rather than just me, would you be interested in seeing this happen for Asia? And would you like to some National Contests created and being run, such as for India, China/Taiwan, Japan etc?♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:21, 16 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Happy new year Dr. Blofeld! .. It sound good to me. I'm interested in this ;) Chongkian (talk) 00:57, 3 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Talk-page template?

edit

Hi! Is there a talk-page template for this challenge, similar to {{WPEUR10k}}? I couldn't find one … Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:38, 4 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Justlettersandnumbers: {{WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge Invite (1)}} is located at the very bottom of the main challenge page. Vycl1994 (talk) 16:22, 4 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Vycl1994, I did see that. What I was asking about, though, was an article talk-page tag similar to {{WPEUR10k}}, rather than a user talk invitation. Sorry, I wasn't very clear. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:30, 4 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Justlettersandnumbers: The one invite appears to be all we have for this challenge, although now that I think about it, I hazily remember there being two invitations. Vycl1994 (talk) 16:37, 4 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

OK, so I went ahead and made one to be added to article talk-pages. It automatically adds the article to Category:Articles created or improved during WikiProject Asia's 10,000 Challenge. It looks like this: {{WPASIA10k}} Hope that's OK. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:53, 6 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Question about the criteria

edit

Recently I just create and improving several articles involving Western colonial officials who once serving in Asia. Can those be qualified to be include on this challenge? Night Lantern (talk) 00:12, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Night Lantern: Entirely late I know, but I'd say yes to that, looking at the other challenges as well. Keep in mind that the criteria for an article to be included is pretty loose and open wide to interpretation. :) Nat965 (talk) 03:56, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

1000 Japan Challenge

edit

@Ganbaruby:, Koridas, Mccunicano, @Miraclepine: Would you be interested in a new 1000 Challenge specifically for Japan and the entries submitted for it merge into here every 10 or 2o or so?† Encyclopædius 12:48, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Encyclopædius, Yeah, I would like that. I would like to create some new Japanese articles in a new challenge. Koridas (...Puerto Rico for statehood!) 16:52, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Encyclopædius Sure, if you need help with anything, let me know. Mccunicano☕️ 12:30, 16 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
