Tag for articles created edit

Articles created at the conference can be tagged with {{WikiConference North America 2016}} on the talkpage, which will put them in the category Articles created or improved during WikiConference North America, 2016 for easier assessment of conference impact. - Brianhe (talk) 22:41, 11 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Similarly, articles created or improved during the Wiki Culture Crawl specifically can be tagged with {{Wiki Culture Crawl 2016}}, which will add entries to Category:Articles created or improved during the Wiki Culture Crawl, 2016‎. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:55, 11 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Created and improved articles for Columbus, 2018 edit

Hello! I've started a page on the conference wiki for recording created and improved articles related to Columbus: https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2018/Content. This applies to articles improved as part of the Culture Crawl, and others improved by editors during and around the conference. Feel free to update! ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:07, 17 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Bri: Also, curious if you think we should have Template:Wiki Culture Crawl 2018, like we had Template:Wiki Culture Crawl 2016 for Wikipedia:GLAM/Balboa Park/Wiki Culture Crawl? Or, perhaps something more WCNA-related (Template:WikiConference North America 2018?) than Culture Crawl-specific, since editors may work on articles on days other than Friday. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:07, 17 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Having an initiative for a culture crawl sounds like a good idea to me. Why not? I suppose if people go do other stuff on other days they can create a new template too. ☆ Bri (talk) 23:56, 17 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

WikiConference 2020 edit

I was asked a question about the conference and I found that https://wikiconference.org/ still redirects to the 2019 conference. Perhaps it should point to the 2020 virtual event? Not sure if any of the organizers check this page but thought I'd add it here. Liz Read! Talk! 18:18, 22 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Can we have a real Wikipedia/Wikimania North American conference in 2023 edit

I'm not understanding why the virtual 2022 conference is "teaming" with other groups. The Wikiconference is Wikipedia and WMF's thing, not outside groups. Did the regular organizers expand it or was that done without vote or discussion? Late 2023 would be about time to have a full in-person North American conference paid for with the four years of WMF accumulated funds, hopefully added to in a kitty for every year this has not been held because of covid. For example, I've been talking up having a "Viva WikiVegas2023", maybe in October or November '23. There is no i in virtual (except one). Randy Kryn (talk) 14:06, 2 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Nothing wrong with such teamwork. I had hoped that this year's WMNA would be closely connected with a live meeting of US Govt mappers and Open Street Map in DC. Instead it's just another online teleconference and, far as I can see, only slightly connected to that map meeting. Jim.henderson (talk) 00:48, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I had no idea who they were and what they do, yet trust your judgement. But look what happened...all the groups involved must have agreed on a teleconference. Yeah, to me teleconferences in place of "I'll buy the next round" conferences just don't do it. Wikipedians need a continental face-to-face after so many years. What is edited in Vegas stays in Vegas (or at least somewhere live in 2023, burning masks might become as iconic as burning bras in the burn-your-bra era). Not this year, it seems. WMDC is doing face to face this month and next, and we'll have a real meeting in Brooklyn Public Library a week and a half from now for Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Wikidata Day. Maybe monthly through the winter. This Monday I intend to meet two Wikidata librarians in Philadelphia. Last Sunday I met half a dozen Wikians, but outdoors in bad weather and we mostly discussed matters that I little understood. "Next year in Jerusalem", as we hear every year at Seder and maybe Vegas is also a noble hope. Jim.henderson (talk) 22:40, 5 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Jim.henderson, I've changed my tune into suggesting VivaWikiVegas be held in 2026, giving enough time to organize a conference which is also a party and celebration of Wikipedia's 25th anniversary. Maybe even have it near or around January 15, 2026, the actual birthdate, Vegas in Winter would be a nice trip for everyone and, with donations of rooms and space, top-notch entertainment for a banquet (a headline performer and a top comedian could put on a good donated show), etc., it could be quite the celebration while, at the same time, work up a great four-day conference of meetings and planning.
