Aberdyfi/Aberdovey name dispute

I have started a move discussion in the talk page for Aberdyfi (Talk:Aberdyfi#Requested move 17 June 2019) in the hope of resolving the edit war there and it is turning out to be more controversial than previously thought. The Welsh name Aberdyfi appears to widely used locally but I am unsure of the most widely used name among native English-speakers across Wales as a whole as I have found clues to suggest tourists might be more familiar with the anglicised Aberdovey which is pronounced the same. I have included the link in case anyone would like to contribute. Tk420 (talk) 22:26, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

"River" vs "Afon" title dispute

There appears to be some confusion over whether to use the prefix 'River' or 'Afon' in the title of articles about rivers in Wales although this is the English-language Wikipedia e.g. I have seen 'River' for River Ystwyth and River Conwy but 'Afon' for Afon Rheidol and Afon Mawddach. According to Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about rivers#Title which states "River X" is used generally for notable rivers in the UK and Ireland, yet many other watercourses are, quite properly, locally and cartographically named "X Beck", "X Water", "X Race" e.g.Trout Beck in the Lake District. However, there is currently no guideline specific to Wales. I have opened a Request for Comment in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about rivers#RfC about the examples of local names on the introduction of such a guideline and have shared the link here in case anyone would like to offer any comments or suggestions.
