Heading edit

  1. Is this what you were thinking about for a script? Is it OK or off the mark?
  2. I could make some changes to get it to work better on Pratik's player, but thought I'd leave as is, so that we can fix the bugs. thoughts?
  3. Any idea why visual editor doesn't work on this page - you really need it to work on punctuation?

  1. Unlabeled axes - the repeated use of animated graphs without axis labels seems odd, unrigorous - I'm guessing that the horizontal/abscissa/x axis is time (likely days), and the vertical/ordinate/y axis is severity, but leaving these unlabeled (and unexplained in the audio) seems opaque.
  2. Heatmap overlays on global map - again, this is a visual without orientation; I guess that this is a thermal map, and can guess that it's meant to illustrate climate change, but shouldn't the script refer to the image?
  3. Violation of universal precautions - at about 3 minutes 12 seconds, the injection without gloves (a violation of universal precautions) seems like a bad example to provide.
  4. NS5 crystal structure in Causes section - this structure has very little to do with the classification of dengue virus as a flavivirus and member of the Flaviviridae family. Would you like for me to find an illustrative phylogenetic tree (showing DENV's genetic relationship to other flaviviruses)?

Nice work Ian_Furst and Doc_James! Overall, I think this is good but we can improve - I'd be bold but I feel like I'm missing something about the approach to linking the media to the text - my guess is that you're deliberately avoiding text in the images to simplify localization, but then shouldn't the text (which can be localized) provide missing context? — soupvector (talk) 23:47, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

User:soupvector The lack of universal precautions is by the CDC[1]
I can look at getting a new one. Have ordered a camera stand to put my phone on.
If you have other suggestions please provide them :-) The video scripts are really easy to edit. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 07:51, 2 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks User:Soupvector. The lack of labelled axis is to facilitate multiple languages. I thought it appropriate because it's intended to show a concept (e.g. "sickness" v time in days) rather than a quantitative value. I'm hoping that we (eventually) make better use of animated SVG's then I can covert but until then better to leave it blank imo. Would appreciate something more useful than the crystal structure. Preferably something animated. Ian Furst (talk) 15:09, 2 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Stepping back from your contextual knowledge of the topic, are the graphs obviously severity vs time? I would strongly urge more clarity. Even a universal symbol for time on the x-axis (e.g. a clock, a sun with a curved arrow around it, something!), and an unhappy face or other symbol of severity of illness on the vertical axis, would be better than a completely unlabeled (and unexplained) graph. — soupvector (talk) 15:13, 2 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
I think I've resolved #1 and #2 above. I may be able to find a good replacement for #4; sounds like James may be able to replace the injection video with something more appropriate (that the current one is from CDC really isn't relevant for our purpose). — soupvector (talk) 11:52, 3 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes will get a video of an injection when I am able. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 13:50, 3 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Regarding #4 above (the "NS5 crystal structure"): after digging in a bit, I have learned that the depicted structure isn't DENV at all. The file [:File:A-Crystal-Structure-of-the-Dengue-Virus-NS5-Protein-Reveals-a-Novel-Inter-domain-Interface-ppat.1004682.s004.ogv] source on commons says, "S3 Movie from" PMID 25775415. Thing is, S3 in that paper here describes S3 as: "S3 Movie. Consurf analysis of JEV NS5." So, this is an image of the Japanese encephalitis virus NS5 protein, provided as a comparison to the DENV NS5, which is in figure S2. I'm not sure how to flag this file as wrong in Commons, but my first order of business is to replace the current image to one of DENV. — soupvector (talk) 23:18, 3 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

For now, I've replaced the JEV NS5 animation with a still image of the DENV capsid. The aspect ratio of the image is 1:1, but the VideoWiki is distorting it - should I create an image with a different aspect ratio - and if so, what's best? Also, what background color? I'm thinking I might use a nice phylogenetic tree instead, showing relationship with other flaviviruses, which would fit the narration better anyway. — soupvector (talk) 23:24, 3 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Wow, that render took awhile, but the image aspect ratio was fine in the final - just the preview version was distorted. I think this is fine for now (even better once we get an injection image that adheres to basic hygiene). — soupvector (talk) 23:51, 3 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Animated 3D structure now, with white background - hope you agree that it looks better. — soupvector (talk) 03:09, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Have added a still image of a vaccination being given with universal precautions. Appears a number of groups do not consider gloves essential for vaccination though.[2] Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 09:18, 5 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
That's a good point - gloves are not required for vaccination - but there are plenty of reasons to be consistent in recommending universal precautions (hence the name) when crossing someone's skin with a needle, and the new photo is very nice! — soupvector (talk) 14:06, 5 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Loved the added text to solve #1. Will add some universal symptoms too. Ian Furst (talk) 15:14, 5 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
