Survey

According to meta 6x as many people have contributed through surveys than all other methods combined. I really like the onwiki consultation because of the discussion and transparency. However, it seems many editors prefer a survey format. Is there a reason that's not available to enwiki editors? Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 17:28, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

The surveys are different in different projects. I participated in two, on Commons and Wikidata, and the questions were different. I guess nobody cared or managed or had time to prepare a survey for the English Wikipedia.--Ymblanter (talk) 20:10, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

Barkeep49: The short answer is that my primary responsibility for these last months has been quite literally "On-wiki consultations".

I'm fond of this format since it's open, durable, transparent, and collaborative. My consultation involves public outreach to individual projects, and that was specifically so participants could discuss interactively in local contexts, with ease-of-reference to local policy and practice.

The longer answer is that, in addition to the ones mentioned, surveys are ongoing by other members of my team, including those sent to Affiliates, and those sent targets of harassment. There is substantial research ongoing and completed.

That said, an anonymous survey in the EnWiki context could provide useful information: if we were to conduct a survey locally, what questions do you think would be important to include? Xeno (WMF) (talk) 23:48, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
