Welcome to the talk page

edit

This is a place where you can ask questions, talk about problems, and discuss the Wikipedia assignment with classmates and other Wikipedians. I and others watch this page. For almost any kind of problem you can imagine there is a board on Wikipedia dedicated to solving that problem, but as beginners, you can post any concerns you have on this page. Posting feedback

edit

Help! I am trying to post feedback to another classmates page. The talk page has a standard disclaimer about being part of an academic project. Is there somewhere else I am missing? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Loreleiewalker (talkcontribs) 21:10, 7 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

You are in the right place. The standard practice is to post messages under the template. Blue Rasberry (talk) 23:33, 7 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey Blue Rasberry! Hope the weather is nice on the East coast. When you say under the template - do you mean right here or do you mean under the table where we have signed up on the previous tab. Sorry! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.16.38.11 (talk) 18:06, 8 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the delay in responding. It is hot and the sun is bright here and these people do not drink espresso, but they are very friendly. The template to which I was referring was what you were calling the "standard disclaimer". The talk page format is to put all template text at the top, then individual comments below that. There should not be comments under the table on the previous tab - try to put as many comments as possible on the talk page of the article itself if those comments can be useful for anyone to improve the article. If the comments really are directed at a single person, then put them on that person's talk page. If you have further questions could you give me the specific link to the page in question? Thanks. Moving a page

edit

Hi there! I'm trying to figure out how to change the name of my page to make it more precise, but I haven't seen a way to edit the name yet? Thanks! - Leslie — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mabryl (talkcontribs) 15:30, 14 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

You have several options. You can read about many of them here at WP:MOVE.
  • You can move it yourself. As a check on vandalism, new users are not allowed to change pagenames until they make 10 edits and had an account for 4 days per WP:AUTOCONFIRM; you should be autoconfirmed but check to be sure by clicking "preferences" in your toolbar at the top of any page and in the first few lines you should be listed as "autoconfirmed". If you are autoconfirmed, go to the article you want to rename and at the article toolbar at the top you should see an option to "move" the article. Wikipedia articles are not exactly renamed; they are moved to a different name and URL.
  • You can go to the WP:TEAHOUSE and post a request there for them to change the name.
  • You can go to Wikipedia:Requested_moves; this is a special forum for users like you who want to change the names of pages but who are having trouble.
  • If you want to explore your options, you can check WP:HELP to try to sort things yourself or Wikipedia:Requests to outright ask a human to guide you through something.
  • If you have any difficulty with any of these another option is to post the name you want here and I can do it for you in 5 seconds. Cool? Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:37, 15 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
