Hi Cynthia! Let's figure out which topic we would like to pursue. I am very interested in Molecular Paleontology and if we chose this topic I would want to take a lot of initiative and go above and beyond researching it. Molecular Paleontology is directly related to the work I am hoping to pursue in my PhD. I think Polysomy is also interesting and I would not hesitate to pursue this topic, either. I think it would be interesting to learn more about this subject. From the list of twelve stubs we've identified, my top three choices, in order, would likely be:

1. Molecular Paleontology
2. Polysomy
3. Selectable Marker

How about you? What are your top three choices? Are you especially drawn to any topics? Please don't feel limited only to the list below in case you might have anything else in mind.

  1. Molecular Paleontology
  2. Gene map
  3. Nucleoside
  4. Regulator Gene
  5. Binding Site
  6. Biomarker
  7. DNA polymerase II
  8. Gene mapping
  9. Histone acetylation and deacetylation
  10. Selectable Marker
  11. Polysomy
  12. Spermatocyte

Hi! I checked out the molecular paleontology stub and that seems pretty interesting to do as well.
I would be fine with either Polysomy or Molecular Paleontology. Both seemed like great topics to work on however I believe another group has been assigned to work on polysomy. I'm guessing we would have to check if molecular paleontology would be alright to work on? Since it wasn't on the list that was posted.

Oh dang, some how I just assumed that the approved list was the Molecular Cell Biology WikiProject page! Bummer! Hmm yes our preferred choices from the preferred list have been taken. Okay yeah let's see if we can get it approved, and if not what would be your new top choices that aren't yet taken from the list?
Mine would probably be:
  1. Gene Cluster
  2. Viral Transformation
  3. Restriction site
  4. Bacteriolysis
If it turns out that we can't pursue Molecular Paleontology then I'm pretty open. Is there anything else that has piqued your interest? In the meantime, I'll ask our Professor and the OA about Molecular Paleontology.

PaleoBioJackie (talk) 01:04, 1 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hey Cynthia! Our topic has been approved by Professor Ogg and by our OA Klortho! I will go ahead and edit our listing for our group on the course page. PaleoBioJackie (talk) 21:06, 1 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
That's great! I just saw the addition of the Molecular Paleontology stub to the course page. Cchandu1 (talk) 05:49, 4 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jackie, I just realized that there are two sections here from when we started our discussion of the article to now the section below ""Our Project"". Just wanted to make sure to let you know that I will be posting all future comments in the section below just so that there won't be any confusion. Also, I added the article page to my watchlist and will begin to look for some more possible references that we can use. If I find any I will add them below with a summary.

Our project edit

Hi Cynthia, I added an article selection rationale to our group page. It is currently 211 words, and the homework suggestion is ~200-300 words. My ego is small, so at any point during our work together I welcome any and all corrections, deletions, or added details as you see fit. I'm looking forward to working with you and making a great project article!

PaleoBioJackie (talk) 22:05, 1 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hey Jackie, I will also add mine as well soon. Of course I'll let you know if there are any things that could be changed. Please do the same with any of my contributions. Excited to work with you as well and I hope to we can both learn alot from this project! Cchandu1 (talk) 05:49, 4 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jackie! Just wanted to let you know of the changes that I made to the Article Selection Rationale on our group page. I read through it and two areas that may need a reference so I will try to look for it but I was wondering if you may already have a reference for those? Also, I thought it would be a good idea to state a general outline of the subsections that we could add/follow for the article page so I added that as well. Let me know what you think.

Molecular paleontology article deleted edit

Somebody (User:January) came through and deleted our topic page of Molecular paleontology, citing an ambiguous copyright violation. I've contacted the contributor's talk page who made the deletion asking for a more specific reason why. I'll get back to you when I hear back from him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PaleoBioJackie (talkcontribs) 00:08, 2 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Paleo (or, should I call you Jackie?). The page was deleted for copyright violation. I checked with a cached version of the page, and the deletion was justified. So, you will have to start from scratch. I grabbed a copy of the old version of the article and can email it to you, but you'll have to completely rewrite it before creating the new page. (So, just a reminder about that: Wikipedians take plagiarism / copyright violation very seriously.) Let's talk about it here, and not involve January -- I'll put a note on her talk page about it Klortho (talk) 04:13, 2 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Klortho, either name is fine:-) It is no problem to start again from scratch, as there was only a few sentences existing on the page anyway. Thank you so much for your support in this matter, and for finding the cached version! I was unable to locate it.

PaleoBioJackie (talk) 05:24, 2 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for letting everyone know about the deleted page. Sounds like starting from scratch is the way to go! Sherry Ogg (talk) 14:20, 3 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jackie, I am very sorry to learn of what happened. I will try to work on the page later on tonight, but hope everything will workout okay. Cchandu1 (talk) 21:43, 3 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Key Points to consider for our article edit

Hi Cynthia! I wanted to talk to you about key points in our article. I started a practice article on my sandbox page,(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:PaleoBioJackie/sandbox) please check it out! This can be our group workspace.

Here is an idea for the overall organization of our article. Thoughts? I really liked your ideas for Applications of Molecular Paleontology, Further Readings, and Links so I added those in. We can always add or remove sections as we progress, as well, but I think a working outline will help us in seeking out journal articles.

   1.1 Overview of Molecular Paleontology
   1.2 History of Molecular Paleontology
   1.3 Applications of Molecular Paleontology
   1.4 Methods
1.4.1 Techniques for Sequencing DNA preserved in fossils
1.4.2 Techniques involved in isolating and amplifying ancient DNA
1.4.3 Environmental Conditions Needed to Preserve DNA for Long Periods of Time
   1.5 Notable Achievements
   1.6 Challenges
   1.7 See also:
   1.8 Further Readings
   1.9 Links
1.10 First Look at Usefulness of References
1.11 References — Preceding unsigned comment added by PaleoBioJackie (talkcontribs) 07:39, 8 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jackie. The outline looks great! I agree having it as a guide will helps us alot as we continue to work on the article. I honestly cannot think of anything else to add to it, but if I do I'll let you know. I also added some more references, especially for the methods section. I am also trying to look for some images that we can use. Cchandu1 (talk) 20:08, 11 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Just wanted to let you know that I searched the suggested search engines for images related to our subject however nothing seemed to be that useful. I think that as we go along we can find more relevant images if we can make the search more specific. I think we can definitely think we can do that for the history section, as well as the methods section. Let me know what you think. Cchandu1 (talk) 21:02, 11 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
I also wanted to let you know that I created a talk page for our article and posted our outline as well as the references we are thinking of using.

Hi Jackie! just wanted to let you know that I already contacted Klortho since we are going to be starting a new article page. I'm just trying to write the intro and using turnitin to check it before posting it.
