New York Meetup 2004

This is my first visit to the U.S. Wikipedians' notice board :) I have come to invite you all to the New York 2004 Meetup. Predicted to be the largest Wikipedia meetup in the US to date! It will held on the afternoon of Sunday 12 December 2004 at a yet-to be decided location. Put it in your calendars now! Angela. 19:36, Nov 3, 2004 (UTC)

Active... or not active, that is the question...

So which is it? This noticeboard seems very dead, even though people want to create a Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western notice board. Seems pointless if the main notice board isn't being noticed. -- AllyUnion (talk) 10:41, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

  • I think that some Wikipedians tend to communicate through other mediums (i.e. Instant Messengers, other websites, clubs, groups, etc) rather than at this unnoticeable notice board. -- Riffsyphon1024 11:41, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Historical tag

This notice board is out of date as it still has the USCOTW up(which is inactive) and has only be edited 2 since January, if no one has objections I'm to put up the historical tag and make a section for inactive notice boards. Falphin (June 28)

Deletion list

Hi folks,

I just wanted to let you know about a list of US-related items on Votes for Deletion. It's part of WikiProject Deletion sorting, and you can find it here. The list includes sublists for each state (some have not yet been created).

If you find the list useful, please also help keep it up to date.

By the way, new deletion sorters are welcome and needed. Join us!

Cheers,

October Minneapolis Meetup

I am giving a presention about Wikicities and Wikimedia projects at the Wireless Cities conference at the University of Minnesota. I have all of October 8 free. Would anyone in this area like to meet up then? If so, please see Wikipedia:Meetup/Minneapolis. Angela. 20:28, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

USA portal

Hi - i've noticed that Portal:USA is in urgent need of updating. As one of the most high-profile portals on Wikipedia, it really isn't acceptable that it is unchanged since June 2005. Please could someone/some people rectify this situation (I would, but I don't know/like America), otherwise the Portal may be delisted. Please see Wikipedia talk:Portal#Portal maintenance for discussion.

U.S. City Name Convention

Discussion is beginning on changing the naming convention for city articles so U.S. cities with unique names can have the state name omitted from the title. Feel free to participate in the discussion. -- tariqabjotu 22:27, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

possibly libeleous articles

copy pasted from here.

(1) i didn't quite know on where to inform about this, but i've found some fairly libeleous claims made towards the USA on Fatah-Hamas conflict, where the US is blamed for supporting "a coup" while supporting the only government that is approved by the Arab world, while there is no mention to the support given by other countries to the Hamas coup.

anyways, i'm not about to get involved in this article personally, although i figure this issue should be promoted on some USA relating group so that the article can be NPOV-ed.

(2) Due to the difference between standard democracy and Arab democracy (totally different), Hamas, while it is in fact the elected party was not the ruling party, and in fact, they are the ones making a(n extremely violent) coup with the aid of Iranian (and perhaps Saudi also) funding. it being that this is being presented in a very POV fashion on the article (no mention of Iran/Muslim Brotherhood, and the "standardized" accusations at the US), i think US members with some level of interest in the subject should help NPOV the current situation on the article. An Invitation from the Philippine Wikipedia Community

Hello folks,

The Philippine Wikipedia Community will be holding its 1st Meet-up in Cebu City (the fourth one in the Philippines) on June 23-24, 2008. This coincides with the first Philippine Open Source Summit, also to be held in Cebu. The Philippine Wikipedia Community is an Implementing Partner of the Open Source Summit. We invite you to join us in this event. If you are in the IT or IT-enabled services industry, this would be a great opportunity to meet people from the 4th best outsourcing city in the world. This is also a good excuse to visit our beautiful beaches :)

If you're interested in joining the Wikipedia meet-up, please join our discussion. You can register for the Open Source Summit here. If you would like some assistance with local accomodations, you may email User:Bentong Isles.

Date format poll confirmation

There is ongoing discussion on the talk page for the Manual of Style (including a series of polls) aimed at achieving consensus on presenting dates in American (July 4, 1776) or International (4 Julyy 1776) format on an article by article basis. The poll gives full instructions, but briefly the choices are:

  • C = Option C, the winner of the initial poll and run-off. (US articles have US format dates, international format otherwise)
  • R = Retain existing wording. (National format for English-speaking countries, no guidance otherwise).

If you wish to participate or review the progress of discussion, you may follow this link. --Pete (talk) 01:23, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
