Many of these are intentional.

  • Often capitalisation implies a different unit, e.g.
    • 1 Mm is one million metres whereas 1 mm is one thousandth of a metre,
    • 1 Cal is one kilogram calorie which is a thousand times 1 cal, the gram calorie, and
    • 1 kn is one knot whereas 1 kN is one kilonewton.
  • Two symbols exist for the litre ("l" and "L") separate subtemplates allow for this.

The "us" (as opposed to "US") in "usgal", "uspt", etc., on the other hand, is not needed. It used to have a special function but the function was hardly used and was removed. JIMp talk·cont 06:05, 13 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
