SMS Lothringen
SMS Lothringen

SMS Lothringen was the last of five pre-dreadnought battleships of the Braunschweig class built for the Imperial German Navy. Launched in May 1904, she was named for the then-German province of Lothringen. The ship was armed with a battery of four 28 cm (11 in) guns and had a top speed of 18 knots (33 km/h; 21 mph). She was to be replaced in July 1914 by dreadnought battleships but World War I prevented her retirement. The ship and the rest of II Squadron joined the dreadnoughts of the High Seas Fleet to support a raid on Scarborough, Hartlepool, and Whitby in December 1914. She primarily served as a guard ship in the German Bight; in poor condition by 1916, she was withdrawn from fleet service in February. She thereafter patrolled the Danish straits until replaced by the battleship Hannover in September 1917. After the war, she was converted into a depot ship for F-type minesweepers and placed in reserve in March 1920. (This article is part of a featured topic: Battleships of Germany.) (Full article...)

Assassination of Heydrich edit

I would like to suggest the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich (one of the most important men in Nazi Germany) in the Operation Anthropoid. I think it is important, interesting ...ideal for selection in anniversaries;) szalas

I like this. Will like this more if the Operation Anthropoid page is rewritten to include more details on what happened that day. Right now, the date is not even mentioned. I suppose we have about half a year to do this.... -- PFHLai 20:41, 4 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanx;) I´ll try to expand the article in next months. sz
ready;)

How about this, Szalas ?

2017 Request edit

  • @Howcheng: 2017 is the 50th anniversary of Australian referendum, 1967 (Aboriginals). The entry for May 27 is a bit dry - it is hard to believe today, but prior to this, indigenous people weren't counted counted as part of the people of Australia. Perhaps something like "Australians voted overwhelmingly in favor of a constitutional referendum to include Indigenous Australians as part of the people of Australia and for the Australian government to make laws for their benefit." Find bruce (talk) 09:30, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
    • @Find bruce: The article looks mostly good, but there are a few paragraphs that have no citations at all: in the Background section, the Amendments to the Constitution section, and in the Legacy section. If you can spruce that up a bit, that would help a lot. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 16:56, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
      • @Howcheng: Thanks. I have added the citations as suggested. Let me know if there are any other areas you think should be improved. Find bruce (talk) 01:58, 23 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

HMS Princess Irene

There is consensus for the wording that was originally posted. The wording was changed, and I've now restored the original. Mjroots (talk) 05:10, 28 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Stephen: - You're now getting into WP:EW territory. There is clear consensus for "obliterated", which descibes the situaton. Mjroots (talk) 06:32, 28 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Where is the clear consensus to overrule that the blurb defers to the article, where obliterated was not mentioned. Stephen 06:49, 28 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
But, as I have already explained, the article states " At 11:14 GMT on 27 May, Princess Irene exploded and disintegrated." Although "obliterated" is not used, the meaning is clear enough. If it makes you happy, I will change disintegrated to was obliterated. Mjroots (talk) 07:36, 28 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I asked where you saw a clear consensus, which is patently untrue? Stephen 09:12, 28 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
TRM objected, myself and Woody supported at WP:ERRORS, per the link in my original post here, and also on your talk page. That's a clear 2-1 in favour of allowing obliterated. Mjroots (talk) 13:56, 28 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
And I object, so that's not a consensus is it? Stephen 22:20, 28 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I would like to suggest we include the Benton fireworks disaster in this year's entry, given it will be the 40th anniversary of this tragedy. Bneu2013 (talk) 20:16, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Update - I have gone ahead and added it. Bneu2013 (talk) 20:28, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Good work Bneu2013. If you know of any more upcoming anniversaries or are interesting helping to refresh upcoming days, please do get stuck in - Dumelow (talk) 06:18, 25 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I can't think of any that are coming up real soon right off the top of my head, but I will be sure to stay involved. Bneu2013 (talk) 20:59, 26 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

2024 request edit

I would like to suggest including Battle of Tsushima (1905) in the list for this year. On 27 May 1905, 11 battleships and 9 cruisers of the Imperial Russian Navy met 5 battleships and 29 cruisers of the Imperial Japanese Navy in the Sea of Japan. The decisive result of this battle ended the Russo-Japanese War. Did you know this is the only 'decisive' battle between two battleship fleets in the history?
