Further explanation

edit

I think I need an example to get my head around this. Take section /13, the very first entry of the first section. So how would you fix that one up exactly? --Commander Keane 09:00, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for your interest! I think you are talking about ferdinand Maria - in that case the double redirect has already been fixed and you can safely ignore it. Let me know if you have any other questions =) Triddle 16:07, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

Yay! The first page was done!

edit

That's page 2. Page 17 will join shortly when the redirect gets deleted. Keep it up guys! --Bash 02:02, 13 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

  • Woo! Just finished off page 17! We're doing really well, let's keep at it! (The Swami 06:50, 13 September 2005 (UTC))Reply
We could do better if the server load wasn't so bad. Is it just me or is anyone seeing Wikipedia just slowing down to a crawl in some cases? --Bash 22:57, 13 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Its definately not just you, this is really slow. Martin 23:25, 13 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

quick guide on editing here

edit

Hi everyone,

I just wrote User:Splintax/Double_redirects which is a helpful(ish) guide on editing this page more rapidly. Someone may wish to add it to the main page.

Just to make sure I'm doing this right, you just ignore mangled links and delete them later right? --Bash 01:53, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
I think you are supposed to just leave them or see if you can figure out what they are supposed to be. But I'm not really sure. CambridgeBayWeather 02:39, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
I put back the red links on page 4 and I was able to find some of them. I'll work my way through and leave a note when done. CambridgeBayWeather 03:25, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Bash - I've just replaced mangled links with mangled, and deleted them after I complete the rest of the set... splintax (talk) 09:02, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Is that a good idea though? Some of the mangaled/red links are fairly easy to find. CambridgeBayWeather 13:51, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
ON further reflection I've checked the red links that are possible and then delete the ones that can't be found or are so badly mangaled that no search is possible. CambridgeBayWeather 14:14, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

The Turkish Invasion of Cyprus

edit

The Turkish Invasion of Cyprus is locked and redirects to itself. I've left a not on User talk:ChrisO as he was the last person to work on it. It's listing is Wikipedia:Computer help desk/cleanup/double redirects/20050713/4, Section 6, item 2. CambridgeBayWeather 22:59, 14 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

While chasing down red links on page 4 I ended up finding some from Page 5, Section 25; Page 6, Section 21; Page 9, Section 9; Page 10, Section 14; Page 12 Section 20; Page 13, Section 9; Page 15, Sections 3, 8 & 17. While chasing down red links on page 5 I ended up finding some from Page 10, Section 2 and Page 12, Section 14. CambridgeBayWeather 05:33, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
While chasing down red links on page 5 I ended up finding some from Page 10, Sections 12 & 24, Page 12, Sections 10, 12, & 23 and Page 14, Sections 7 & 24.

Putting up mangled redirects up for deletion?

edit

Of the mangled links that are listed here, most are unaccessable. If you do a search though, you will find the intended double redirect...except these redirects are mangled themselves. They tend to mangle when there's a non-English Latin letter (most often this happens to Romanian places, Polish nobles and other misc. things), in which case MediaWiki tends to go beserk and add some random stuff i.e. you put in "ł", and the title comes out as "Å‚".

Do you think it's a good idea to put them up for speedy deletion? I see no reason why the mangled redirects should be there in the first place as they aren't typos one would normally type in i.e. BronisÅ‚aw Geremek instead of Bronisław Geremek, and Nata AZS AWFiS GdaÅ„sk instead of Nata AZS AWFiS Gdańsk.

What do you think? --Bash 22:50, 17 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

I wondered about that as well. I found some blue links listed as article/temp and thought wh is going to type that in. I guess we should have been putting them up for speedy. CambridgeBayWeather 02:37, 18 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Just to let you guys know, I've put 3 mangled redirects for speedy deletion and (I think) all of them were deleted, so they'll definetely green light the speedy. --Bash 02:54, 18 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Once I get finished I'll go through my watch list and list the odd ones for speedy. CambridgeBayWeather 03:04, 18 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Yeah they did delete them, you can see two of them (can't find the third) here and here. --Bash 03:07, 18 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

That was fun and sure made a change from RC patrol. Now all I have to do is find all the ones that are listed in my watch page. I forgot to remove the check mark from most of them. OHHHHHHHHHHH!. CambridgeBayWeather 19:00, 18 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
I am consistently amazed at how fast this cleanup project goes every time. Great work everyone! Triddle 19:15, 18 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
