Wikipedia talk:Meetup/Toronto/Wikipedia Day 2024
After the first club meeting
editNice meeting you all! (Is this how to use a talk page?) I’m the British tech guy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oenu (talk • contribs)
- @Oenu: Yes this is the general idea :) If you look towards the bottom of the page (I blame banner blindness), there is advice to use four tildes to sign your username at the end. I fixed it for you already, it's just a tip for the future. Anyways, it was very nice to meet everyone. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 20:33, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- And I mentioned this at some point, but this is the CrashCourse video about Wikipedia if anyone is curious. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 20:36, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
@Oenu: As a friendly reminder, when you make a comment on a talk page, you add ~~~~ to the end of a comment to generate a signature, just like Clovermoss did above my comment and what I am currently doing in my comment. Thanks. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 15:54, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
- In the grand scheme of things, it's not that big of a deal, I already left a friendly reminder myself. I do appreciate you showing what a tilde actually looks like, though. It made me realize that most people probably aren't using that on their keyboards frequently.
- Anyways, what's important is that it was very nice to meet you Oenu. I hope to see you and your contributions to Wikipedia in the future. :) Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 18:36, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
Useful links
edit@Vicstasiuk7, Cobblet, FaysaLBinDaruL, YusufuAM, Legowerewolf, DellSun, Ronin.xe, SimonBellamy, and SixTwoEight: I hope everyone had a good time at our wikiclub. I just wanted to let everyone know that if you ever have any questions, feel free to post a new section on my talk page and I will get back to you.
I also wanted to provide some useful links.
- Category:All stub articles which is organized alphabetically and by topic. All these articles could be expanded!
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory - this is a list of wikiprojects. Some are way more active than others but it's a decent way to try and find groups of articles that match your interests. I'm particularly fond of Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada and our associated challenge for improving articles.
- The Wikipedia Adventure. This is a very basic (and somewhat eccentric) editing tutorial.
- This is the perennial sources list, which was mentioned in a few discussions.
- This is a tutorial for what to know if you wanted to create an article.
- This page is a glossary of different terms used on Wikipedia that can help you understand what people are talking about if you come across an unfamiliar acronym.

- Additional ping to PeaceNT because I managed to accidently miss you above. Hopefully you find these links useful too :) Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 03:54, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for these resources Vicstasiuk7 (talk) 12:33, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
- Clovermoss Thanks a lot for these useful links. Especially love the Perennial sources guide! :) Didn't know we have that. It's great help to tell the good and bad sources, something I have challenges with recently. --PeaceNT (talk) 04:13, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for sharing these links Vicstasiuk7 (talk) 20:19, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
And also Wiki Shoot Me for a list of locations that are identified as missing photos (red dots). Note that it may not be practical to add photos to some entries (e.g. former site of [something]) OhanaUnitedTalk page 04:35, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- For buildings under construction, please remember to attribute the photos to the photographer who took them, including myself. Random photos from Facebook, Flickr, Instagram, Reddit, UrbanToronto, X (Twitter), or similar will require attribution to the original photographer. A place for general Toronto WikiClub chat
editJohnny Au, the man who holds the longest editing streak on Wikipedia, here. It would be great to create a page for members of the Toronto WikiClub ideally within Wikipedia to chat about whatever topic, may it be related to Wikipedia, to other Wikimedia projects, or anything else. Alternatively, an external forum could be created, preferably one that respects user privacy. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 15:48, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Johnny, was great to see you yesterday. Just posted about the Toronto WikiClub page https://ca.wikimedia.org/wiki/Toronto_WikiClub
- We can always use the Talk page there, and I'm also working on a mailing list or other privacy-forward solution.
- Cheers! SophieWMCA (talk) 16:07, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for providing a place to chat. I'll take a look at it. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 16:10, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
WikiClub page updated!
editHi all, took some time this morning to update the WikiClub page on the WMCA Wiki: Toronto WikiClub page. Please add yourself as a member if you wish! It'll probably be used as the main mean of communication (working on getting the mailing list back on too).
As said yesterday, feel free to reach out if needed! SophieWMCA (talk) 16:05, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
