Inviting People edit

I've posted an invite message on the talk pages of the following users. I concentrated on users who've participated in previous Seattle meetups. Please invite anyone else you might know who lives in the area and add them to this list. Thanks, Bestchai (talk) 02:32, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Meeting Place edit

Here are some pros and cons, as I see them, of the initial list of potential places. Add you suggestions below. Preferably a meeting place would either have food or would have some restaurants close by; be accessible via public transport and have parking options; could fit our group of 10-20 people. • Seattle Central Library
    • pros: quiet, large meeting spaces, central
    • cons: closes early (8pm weekdays, 6pm weekends), difficult to find parking in the area
  • Someplace on University of Washington campus
    • pros: easy to get to (numerous bus routes)
    • cons: little to no food, tight on parking, finding a meeting place on a weekend might be challenging
  • Big Time Brewery
    • pros: beer, some food, easy to get to, cheery atmosphere
    • cons: tends to get crowded in the evening
  • The Ram
    • pros: ?
    • cons: ?
  • Thaiku
    • pros: spacious, good food ($8-12 entrees), nice atmosphere, bar with live jazz opens after 9:30
    • cons: Ballard isn't the most central place...
  • Julia's of Wallingford
    • pros: group accommodations, healthy food
    • cons: expensive ($15-20 entrees)

preferences edit

  • I think that Thaiku could be lots of fun - Leafman (talk) 16:49, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Meetup Agenda edit

  • There are various Wikipedia research efforts that UW folks can discuss. These include studies of community practices, data-mining and AI techniques applied to info-boxes and article content, user interfaces, and more. Bestchai (talk) 03:19, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • It would be great to discuss whether there are opportunities for collaboration between the academic and wikipedia communities, and what those might look like.Leafman (talk) 16:22, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • I would also like to hear GTBacchus (talk · contribs) and others discuss their mediation efforts as part of the Mediation Cabal and otherwise. Bestchai (talk) 03:19, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Possible topics of discussion: Wikimania, having a local Wikipedia Academy event, determining whether there's interest in organizing a Seattle or regional Wikimedia chapter. What people think about implementing flagged revisions on the English Wikipedia. --Michael Snow (talk) 17:07, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Advertising edit

I've posted messages on user talk pages, and the meetup is now listed on WP:Meetup. Are there other places I should advertise where we might attract users from the northwest? Bestchai (talk) 16:26, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Writeup edit

Someone please make a writeup of the basic rundown? SchmuckyTheCat (talk)

Somewhat related story edit

This article came out in Crosscut Wednesday, looks like it was from User:Lukobe, but I didn't see it until now. It would have been interesting to talk about how to define Seattle neighborhoods for Wikipedia purposes, since he mentions that issue. Maybe something to think about for next time, and discuss Wikipedia's Seattle-specific coverage in general. --Michael Snow (talk) 20:04, 20 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
