Next Meetup

Since we've already met twice this month, I think that the next meet should be in April (not the 3rd Sunday). I think that most weekends except for the 3rd sunday are ok for me, how does everyone else feel?
Also, I've been in talks with Useight about a possible partnership with the Utah meetup, and possible co-coordination of meetings and discussion via Skype. Thoughts? Sam Blab 22:30, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
The second Sunday of April this year is Easter Sunday, which might be a conflict for some people (and the Saturday that weekend is the second day of Passover, so that's not good either). The first Sunday is Palm Sunday, which might also be unavailable for some people, but probably not as serious a conflict as Easter Sunday. The first or fourth Sundays look okay. Newyorkbrad (talk) 23:00, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
...you said the first Sunday was Palm Sunday, and later went on to say that was okay? Think you mean third or fourth :) Icy // 23:01, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Whoops ... I meant the first Saturday would be okay ... although for some editors it is Shabbat ... so for them it isn't. The last weekend of April looks clear, as does the last weekend of March (except then we maybe getting to close to the next one in New York City).... *sigh* Newyorkbrad (talk) 23:04, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

I apologize for not being able to attend the last meetup -- work related emergency. I will try my best to attend the next one. One thing I was interested in bringing up was cataloging the town historical markers of Connecticut. Each town has a marker like this one. I was thinking that some people might be interested in photographing and noting the precise location of each of the 169 Connecticut town markers. Most of them are easy to find but some are a bit tricky. These would be also useful as a source for the Connecticut town Wikipedia articles as well, many of which are barebones at the moment. Anyway, just a random idea for now. --Polaron | Talk 23:08, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

4th Sunday is April 25. Fine by me. Sam Blab

April 25 is quite a while away. I think the end of March sounds better. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 23:27, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
We should meet in months other than NYC, to minimize confusion. Sam Blab 00:03, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

If we do this again, I think we should try to meet somewhere else, preferably somewhere with free WiFi. Does anyone know of a restaurant around there that has a private room or something similar that we could use? J.delanoygabsadds 23:35, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

There's a Panera Bread with free wifi in Newington. They don't really have a private or semi-private area though. Some of the local coffee shops probably also have free wifi and may be better. --Polaron | Talk 00:06, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Either New Haven or Hartford is probably best. They both have easy train/bus connections for people arriving from out of state. Sam Blab 01:58, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Timing...

This sounds excellent, but I won't be able to attend if it's on a Sunday...Saturday is alright. I'll keep a eye on this page so I can know for sure. Jourdy288 (talk) 20:21, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Oi, sorry, couldn't make it...Jourdy288 (talk) 01:04, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Date

How does Sunday the 25th sound? Sam Blab 22:39, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

I will not be able to attend on a Sunday, as I attend church at 11 am, and I live 250 miles away, so it takes me nearly 5 hours to make the trip. But if others can make it, don't not do it because of me. J.delanoygabsadds 00:28, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Based on the above thread and some other comments, it seems the prior Saturday might be more convenient. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 01:37, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
You are right. ;) Sam Blab 01:41, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Would anyone object to Saturday, April 18th as the meetup day? Now is the time to air your concerns. Sam Blab 23:27, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
That sounds great! — Jake Wartenberg 01:18, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
Fine by me. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 02:10, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
So should we spam everyone on the invite list with the date, now that we have decided on it? — Jake Wartenberg 16:05, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

I got mine a few minutes after posting :PJake Wartenberg 01:16, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Does anyone have any suggestions for a place we could meet that has WiFi? That would be much better, and I may be able to set up a live web feed of the meetup, assuming that I am able to attend. J.delanoygabsadds 01:20, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

That live feed sounds ingenious, how would we do that?24.151.2.154 (talk) 18:27, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
The planned meeting place, Real Artways, does have free wifi. --Polaron | Talk 22:34, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
When I was there, they didn't. I think Sam said he found an Ethernet jack, but I can't remember. J.delanoygabsadds 22:37, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, we definitely had a connection in the January 12 meet. There's always a Panera Bread in one of the nearby towns if Real Artways no longer has connectivity. --Polaron | Talk 22:43, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Polaron is right. I'm certain Mitch's computer, at least, was able to get the WiFi that afternoon. We had a Skype chat running.--Pharos (talk) 01:09, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Change of venue

Could we change the venue to the Its a Grind coffee house on Memorial Drive in West Hartford? They also have free WiFi and there is a better selection of restaurants withing walking distance. This venue is less than two miles from Real Art Ways, so travel should be equal for all concerned. Somebody will pick up people who take the train to Hartford. Jehochman Talk 03:29, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

I could definitely pick people up. Sam Blab 12:19, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
How's parking at Blue Back Square? My understanding is that you have to pay for parking at a nearby garage. Also, I will be coming from New Haven and I can pick up people who are coming by train from the New York city area. --Polaron | Talk 19:59, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
You do have to pay a bit to park on Saturdays. It's $1.50 per hour, not too bad. The improved dining and entertainment options at this venue are worth it, I think. Jehochman Talk 01:06, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Another event April 18

This probably shouldn't affect you folks, but I think I'm going to be busy April 18 with Open Everything NYC, and we might have some Wikimedia NYC presence there (sorry, this date was picked by the organizers of Open Everything, not us).--Pharos (talk) 18:29, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Status on my laptop

I am going to try tonight to get my laptop working so we have a working laptop at the meet. I mean, remember, the backlight doesn't work, but I'll try my best.Mitchazenia :  Chat  Trained for the pen 22:38, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
