TFA blurb review

edit

SMS Gneisenau was an armored cruiser of the Imperial German Navy, laid down in 1904, launched in 1906, and commissioned in 1908. She was armed with eight 21 cm (8.3 in) guns and had a top speed of 22.5 knots (42 km/h; 26 mph). Gneisenau initially served with the German fleet, but, outclassed by the newly developed battlecruisers, was assigned to the German East Asia Squadron. There she joined her sister ship Scharnhorst and several light cruisers. On the outbreak of World War I in July 1914, the squadron crossed the Pacific and off the coast of Chile defeated a British squadron at the Battle of Coronel. During this action, Gneisenau disabled the British armored cruiser HMS Monmouth, which was then sunk by SMS Nürnberg. The defeat prompted the British to dispatch two battlecruisers to hunt down and destroy the squadron, which they accomplished at the Battle of the Falkland Islands on 8 December 1914. Gneisenau was sunk with heavy loss of life, though 187 of her crew were rescued. (Full article...)

Hi Parsecboy and anyone else interested: a draft blurb for this article is above. Thoughts, comments and edits are welcome. Gog the Mild (talk) 19:26, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

That looks fine to me, the only thing I'd point out is that "despatch" is the British spelling, and the article uses American spellings, so that may be jarring to readers. Parsecboy (talk) 12:48, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Parsecboy, my bad. Changed. It's your blurb, so feel free to change anything you like - I'm not precious about these. Gog the Mild (talk) 12:52, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

No worries, it wasn't a big deal, just something I noticed. Thanks Gog. Parsecboy (talk) 12:54, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
