Notability means 'gets its own article'

edit

Unfortunately, both of these essays use the word "notable" when they mean "this fact should be given due weight within an article". "Notability" in wikijargon means (exactly, precisely) 'gets its own article'. It is unlikely that any person's race or ethnicity deserves its own article. It is highly likely that most people's race, ethnicity and/or national origin (when it can be documented through a reliable source) is WP:DUE for a passing mention in an article. Eh?

Ken Kandodo is a Chewa. That is relevant information in the article. Should there be a category for "Chewa politicians"? Perhaps. "Chewa artists"? Maybe. "Chewa auditors"? I don't think so. "Right-handed Chewas"? No way. (I used to have an ethnicity myself, but it dropped off.) Aymatth2 (talk) 04:24, 5 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
