Wikipedia is the encyclopedia anyone can edit and its centrality to the internet shapes how we contribute and access information. It is an important part of the public's perspective on History, where many people have their first encounters with both critical and minor historical topics. Your job for this assignment will be to create a well-researched and well-written intervention in the representation of local Kansas History by expanding an already existing Wikipedia article with little or no coverage of that community's history by adding several paragraphs about that community's history.

This assignment focuses on three learning goals:

  • Applying historical research and writing skills in a public-oriented community of practice (Wikipedia)
  • Summarize that scholarship in an organized manner accessible to public readers
  • Learn about the implications of public history in a digital environment
