Grading

The Wikipedia-based assignment will involve students developing a Wiki entry describing a stratigraphic unit (Group or Formation) that is present in the Appalachian Basin. This region is currently the site of active natural gas development, but many of the key stratigraphic units are not present in Wikipedia. Students will research their particular unit, develop text, references, diagrams and images, and offer a Wikipedia page in draft form to the instructor for approval. We have three lab periods of three hours each assigned for the project; students are upper-level undergraduates.
