This is a course examining the basic legal setting for the protection and management of the environment using a comparative approach. After learning the major principles of traditional common law this course will explore statutory protection schemes including species protection, environmental impact assessment, pollution control through the various health based, technology forcing and market mechanisms. We will explore international law and emerging issues in the field. The course also includes material on economic analysis, scientific and legal causation and expert testimony.
