Suggestions for additional workflows to be covered

WP:DRVs, that have the template {{Delrev}} on article page- not feasible - most articles on DRV are actually deleted during the discussion, so the project assignments cannot be determined. --B. Wolterding (talk) 17:19, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

- With admin rights, this could be doable. The AAB would have to monitor what gets on WP:DRV, then retrieve the stuff on the last version of the talk page of those articles. It wouldn't be perfect since these the templates on these pages might be those still used (and it would obviously not cover things that didn't get a project template on their talk page), but it would be better than nothing.Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 07:24, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

- Per the discussion at WP:BOWN#Bot reading deleted pages?, it's doable but only with substantial effort. (In particular, both I and Legoktm would first have to pass RFA.) But CBM mentioned another option for implementing this, using data from the new WP 1.0 bot. Will check that once the new bot is live in a few months. --B. - Yes, I agree that they would be easy to implement (perhaps modulo the discussion links). But if they are very seldomly used, I would have trouble even in testing the implementation. - I've just set this up for Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset & noticed that a relevant Category discussion (Category:Wells) had not been picked up. I think this is because Wikipedia:Categories for discussion is not included in the feeds. Is there any particular reason for this?— Rod talk 14:36, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
- In fact the bot currently looks for Categories for Deletion, but not for Cateogories for Renaming. There's no particular reason for that, it's just that you are the first one to request Categories for Renaming to be included. --B. Wolterding (talk) 15:19, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Project-specific review workflows
I have received a number of requests (well, at least two) for handling project-specific review processes, such as A-Class or an internal peer review. I am a bit reluctant to implement these, since the bot now has more than 50 subscribers, and I cannot adapt it to each and every project individually. On the other hand, it may be possible to find some project independent solution that allows to include these workflows nevertheless. As a preliminary idea, one could set up a category like Category:Articles for WikiProject internal review, which the bot scans, and modify the project's templates accordingly.
I am currently quite busy with this real life thing, and won't be able to implement the change on the short term. (There are also still a lot of other changes to be done, such as the collapsible sections.) Nevertheless, I'd like to see which projects are interested in including such internal processes in the article alerts, and what processes these are. So I invite your responses below. So far, I have heard of WikiProject India (peer review) and WikiProject Films (A-class review). --B. Wolterding (talk) 16:07, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

- IMO, the internal review should be a secondary concern. When I proposed this bot, the main motivation was that to help WikiProjects to follow what happens to their articles outside of their project, and to get more input in the various processes of Wikipedia. Anyone can nominate List of quasiparticles for deletion, or for peer review, but not everyone will notify WikiProject Physics (or it might take quite a while before someone does so). While it'd be a neat feature to have, the various projects should already know of internal reviews (else it's not much of an internal review), so there's isn't really a need for such a feature. A number of bug fixes have been implemented meanwhile (most importantly, the one regarding closure of deletion processes), and the "advertisement campaign" is a number of days back. Opt-out for "Other news"
Note that with the new bot version, you can now opt-out from the "Other news" section. To that end, include the parameter "workflows=ALL,!NEWS" in your subscription template. Help: WPNZ
Hi,
Article alerts were working for Wikiproject New Zealand since we first subscribed, but Wikipedia:WikiProject New Zealand/Article alerts is currently showing an error message. This appears to be something to do with pages having {{WPNZ}}, but that actually being a redirect to {{WikiProject New Zealand}}. However, I'm totally confused as to what to do to fix it. dramatic (talk) 08:45, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's been fixed by Gadfium (See [1]). The bot needs the actual banner, and not the redirect (see [2] for what caused the problem). You won't get any reports today, but you'll get some tomorrow. WP:CRIME and WP:CRIMINAL
The project has two banners, one for crime articles {{WikiProject Crime}} and one specifically for biographies {{WP Criminal}}. Someone commented that although we have what we think are requests for both banners, we're getting duplicate posts. OTD tagging is complete and User:AnomieBOT will tag things regularly, so people should start get OTD notices. - Well a quick (but sorta ugly) fix would be to move Template:WikiProject Pokémon to Template:WikiProject Pokemon (and redirect Template:WikiProject Pokémon to Template:WikiProject Pokemon). Then you could use {{ArticleAlertbotSubscription|banner=WikiProject Pokemon}} on your page, and things would work. I see that one of the workflows is Categories for Deletion however I'd suggest renaming that to Categories for Discussion since that's what it is. Secondly, Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2009 May 19#Category:LGBT issues and religion, 3 days old now, never was listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies/Article alerts even though the subscription parameter we have set is |workflows=ALL,!NEWS. Hello,
just wanted to say that I did not find much time in the past weeks to look into bot issues (as you will have noticed). I was quite busy with other things. I hope I will be able to make some improvements over the next week or so, beginning with the bugs rather than the feature requests.
On the other hand, there seem to be no immediate urgent issues, so perhaps it's good to just leave the machine running sometimes ;)

- Ah, well then I am not sure if it is possible; I think the alert bot wants a category containing the talk pages of the articles. It is possible that using the |wgcat= parameter could produce results, something like would work, but I am unsure. B. Wolterding should know (I would suggest leaving him a message pointing to here). If it turns out it is not feasable, then I would suggest making a bot request, and someone will be able to code something in a relatively short ammount of time I'm sure. - Ah, that one is a leftover from the demo-phase I think. Some projects were hand-coded into the bot (rather than through subscriptions). - True, this "subscription" is hand-coded. I used it at a lot for testing, as the Biography project is so large that most workflows, special situations, etc. can be seen there once in a while. (And I still find it useful for that purpose.) --B. Wolterding (talk) 22:32, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm slightly confused here. It says at Wikipedia:Article alerts/Subscribing:
- To subscribe for article alerts, place the {{ArticleAlertbotSubscription}} template on the main page of your WikiProject or work group (aka task force, subproject) at a position you would like links to the alerts to appear.
- The article alerts list (i.e., the bot output) will then be generated as a subpage of your project page, for example: WikiProject Yellow Tulips/Article alerts.
First part is fine, but the bot output is generated on the main project page, not, as far as I can see, on a subpage. See [3]] Ty 12:03, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Not sure if WP:Article Incubator is going to takeoff, but if it does, then the Article alerts system must catch any move of project pages into the incubator area. I just found one by accident. It's down because the API changed because of security issues related to logins. The bot coder, B. Wolterding, is inactive and has been almost always inactive for the last several months. The issue has been brought up to WP:BOT, and User:Tedder volunteered to update the bot. However, Tedder doesn't have a toolserver account yet, and his application has been up in the air for the last 6-8 months. See User_talk:Legoktm/April_2010#AA_bot for more details. - Ah. B. Wolterding (talk · contribs) is mostly inactive but not totally gone. He has came back in March to fix another bot issue. If asked on his talkpage/email, I'd assume he would be willing to help out, at least briefly. So hopefully article alerts are not dead. Still, it would be nice to have a working backup in the future that is not one-person-dependent. - I sent EMAILS to both users and it appears that requests have been left on their talk pages with no response yet. I also asked a couple of folks to look at their toolserver accounts for the code (there wasn't any) and I looked through their namespaces in case they kept the code there with no luck. I am open to other ideas if anyone has some. A couple of the developers have stated that they would be willing to give a shot at rewriting the code but knowone seems to know exectly how it did what it did, so its hard to recreate without seeing at least a partial of the code. More complicated request
I am attempting to get WikiProject United States going again and I have a somewhat complicated request. I would like to get alerts for all of the 100+ projects and task forces that fall under WPUS added to a single page (some of them might be requesting individually as well) under WPUS. Is this possible and if so what do you need from me? If possible I would like to transclude them as was recently done for the Unreferenced BLP's by Dashbot [[Wikipedia:WikiProject United States/US related unreferenced BLPs |here]]. --Kumioko (talk) 15:40, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
- You can have the templates dump all talk pages in one "workgroup" category such as "Category:All WP USA-related articles", and specify that category to the template ({{ArticleAlertbotSubscription|wgcat=All WP USA-related articles}}.
