Reality edit

Actually, the argument presented, that Jimbo will not intervene, is not always the case. Ikip 12:20, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Darn, missed a word. The argument as it stands now is that Jimbo will not normally intervene. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 12:22, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Tone change edit

I deliberately wrote this essay to be slightly sardonic, because editors need to understand that when they appeal to Jimbo it impresses noone. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 21:29, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

But it won't come across well at all to any new users. It's just an inside joke as it stands, which isn't much use. Why deliberately try to insult the intended audience of the piece? Do you want to simply laugh at anyone who posts on Jimbo's talk page, or do you want to try to educate them of the error of their ways? If you want to laugh at clueless internet users, Encyclopedia Dramatica would be more suitable than a Wikipedia essay. Fences&Windows 01:36, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm not laughing at them, I'm pointing out that doing end runs around consensus is ridiculous and not very intelligent. By the time an appeal gets to Jimbo half the community have usually got involved, so there's really not much excuse. It's a bit like Wikipedia:No, you can't have a pony. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 03:56, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I hope noone appreciates that :) - Alison 17:53, 15 January 2010 (UTC) (sorry, sorry!! Leaving now :) )Reply

Be careful what you ask for edit

At the risk of sounding like a crank, I believe one critical danger about directly appealing to Jimmy Wales is that he's increasingly out of touch with the English Wikipedia community, how we work, & our ideals: more often than not, when he does intervene -- or state his opinion about something -- he's painfully wrong. IMHO, he's more likely to make a bad situation worse. (And I suspect many of the Wikipedia regulars know this.) Honestly, if I believed the community or its usual processes have gone way off the tracks to require his intervention, the last person I'd try to contact for help is Jimmy Wales. (And this option is after starting a thread on one of the usual anti-Wikipedia websites -- you know which ones.) -- llywrch (talk) 23:09, 16 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Jimbo quote edit

I know it's sarcastic, but I'm still curious: is the 13:32, 6 February 2004 (UTC) Jimbo quote that currently appears in the project page real? 2A02:8109:9340:136C:8CB1:CFCD:8297:438A (talk) 06:41, 3 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
