Wikipedia talk:A history of lists and categories

Concerning the article draft for the main namespace, perhaps we should question the approach of writing it from personal experience, and instead survey what there is out there on this subject.

While we are experts on Wikipedia and have first-hand knowledge of what has happened (behind the scenes) at Wikipedia with lists and categories, it seems unlikely that that applies to authors or journalists. We may find that lists, and their impact on Wikipedia, are extremely obscure topics of interest. A quick glance at news and google scholar search results for "Wikipedia lists" turned up no articles about the development of lists on Wikipedia. Most of the interest in lists out there is on how to use them in machine learning applications, with focus on writing the future (in the form of computer programs) rather than the past.

It is odd that creating the future of lists has become the same activity (writing, albeit source code) as recording the history of lists.

Which brings us to the question: which type of writing will have greater impact?    — The Transhumanist   13:18, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
