Before you take the formal Wikipedia Takes Brooklyn photo for each site, first snap a reference shot of yourself holding the index card, with the particular alphanumeric goal code written on it (eg "A-1"), in front of the goal location. This will preserve the identity of the goal locations captured along your wiki-odyssey. Then, as your second photo, take a clear encyclopedia-style view of the goal location.

You will notice that the alphanumeric of each goal category starts with a different letter, N for National Register of Historic Places, L for Brooklyn Public Library branches, and P for Prospect Heights neighborhood highlights. Please write both the letter and the number of the alphanumeric goal code on the index card in the reference shot; after each new location, you can just cross out the old goal code.

Please also check the box next to each goal location on this sheet that you have successfully photographed.

When you get back to the library for the uploading session, you will be helped to register an account on Wikimedia Commons, Wikipedia's sister site and open source multimedia repository. There, you will be guided though the customized UploadWizard for this event (available on Wikimedia Commons at Category:Wikipedia Takes Brooklyn), and your photos will be put online for potential use in Wikipedia articles.

Only the National Register of Historic Places goal locations will be eligible for the Wiki Loves Monuments international photo contest (this also includes architecture-focused Prospect Park photos in the Prospect Heights category); however, photos in all categories will be useful for Wikipedia.
