This course is focused on the folklife of Scandinavian and Nordic Americans. We will be examining their cultural traditions, how traditions are transplanted in the wake of migration, how they change over time in new contexts, and how they continue to remain relevant to communities. Students will be expected to identify a topic on Wikipedia that relates to an aspect of Nordic American expressive culture (such as a type of folk art, celebration, folk music, dance, humor, etc.) and either expand it (in the case of an underdeveloped topic) or create a new entry.
