This course considers the intersection of all things audiovisual with the experiences of people in Africa and the African Diaspora. In more concrete terms, the course covers art and media created by and about Blackness; histories of surveillance targeting African and African Diaspora peoples; secrecy in African and African Diaspora religious practices; and the representation of African and African Diaspora peoples in public spaces.
