This will be an introduction to the field of Chemical Ecology. The course will be seminar-based, with class time devoted to discussing at least one primary literature article in the field of chemical ecology per class. Students will work on a Wikipedia education module throughout the course, with students contributing substantially to at least 2 topics of their choice on Wikipedia. These efforts are meant to be communally beneficial. Wikipedia values of neutrality and notability align with a course objective to establish a core and accepted understanding of the state of the field. These contributions to Wikipedia will be a major course deliverable (there will be no final exam although there will be final presentations). This class is offered concurrently as an advanced undergraduate + graduate level course. Students will be graded independently on their Wikipedia efforts, but are welcome to discuss and work collaboratively. Each student will also be required to provide feedback/review other student entries in the spirit of scientific accountability and accepted practices of communal peer review.
