An introduction to contemporary fiction and poetry that imagines endings - - especially apocalyptic endings. Texts to be considered include: fiction by Richard Matheson, Naomi Alderman, and Margaret Atwood, video narratives like Last Man on Earth/I Am Legend and The Walking Dead, genres like afro-futurism and climate fiction. Students will examine social themes, ideologies of history and historical change, narrative structure, and changing representations of the apocalypse/social endings. Students will author Wikipedia pages on particular texts and or themes.
