Feel free to add to any of the lists on this page. If you complete a request, please remove the article from the appropriate section.

Requested articles

edit
Specific requests
Implied requests
 • Red linked items in List of zoo associations, List of zoos and its related country articles, List of aquaria and its related country articles, and List of dolphinariums all need articles created. Remember that some red-linked items may be alternate names or alternate spelling, which should be turned into redirects rather than new articles.
 • Redirects in the Redirect category point to a section of another article, and need to be replaced with a real article. If you create an article in a redirect, make sure you move Zoos and templates from the old article into the now zoo-specific article.
Please consider creating start-class articles!

It's not difficult. You can find a "template" for what goes in a basic zoo article at User:Donlammers/Sandbox/Zoo stub. If you have questions about usage, or need help with citations or coordinates, you can contact Donlammers.

Creating redirects

edit

Redirects can be created for articles which may eventually become articles, or for alternate spelling, capitalization, etc.

For future article redirects, use #REDIRECT Article name for the article content, and for the talk page content. This puts the redirect into the Redirect category page so we know it's a potential future article.

For alternate spelling or capitalization redirects, #REDIRECT Article name for the article content, and #REDIRECT Talk:Article name for the talk page content.

Requested images

edit

Photos should not only illustrate the subject (in this case a zoo), but should be placed close to the points they illustrate. Galleries (whether labeled as such or not) are discouraged per WP:Galleries now that we have Wikimedia Commons and links to it from the External links section. When adding photos to zoo articles, keep in mind that generally we are illustrating something about the zoo, not something about a specific animal. Closeups of animals are pretty (and seem to be about 95% of the pictures that people take at zoos) but they do not tell us anything about the zoo.

 • Requests for specific zoos (articles tagged with ). If you spot a zoo article in need of either a sign/logo image or body images, please add this tag to the talk page.
 • Each zoo, aquarium, and aviary should have an infobox with an image from its main entrance or sign in addition to the zoo/aquarium/aviary's logo if one exists.

Requested article expansions

edit

B-class which could be GAN

edit

The following articles are probably ready for GAN.

Stubs in need of help

edit

The following articles are Basic Stubs which have been nominated for deletion or for merging with another article. They are presumably in desperate need of help.

Stub to start expansion

edit

The following criteria for start class articles not only meet the basic Wikipedia criteria, but will also help avoid many of the tags (like "needs citation", "orphan article", etc.) that get placed on small articles:

 • At least 4 paragraphs (not just four separate sentences).
 • Understandable English.
 • Some structure in place. Sections may include History, Exhibits and other facilities, Conservation dsand education, Events (annual and/or daily), The future. This gives other editors an indication of where they can place additional information.
 • An Infobox zoo template (only for articles about a zoo).
 • At least 3 citations, one of which is not from the zoo Web site. Note that AZA zoos (and many other zoo organizations) get a free pass on the "outside source" if you use the AZA accreditation list reference. You can find member list citations here.
 • At least 1 article pointing to it (i.e., it is not an orphan). Most zoos can qualify for this criteria by being added to the list of zoos.
 • Coordinates.
 • Appropriate zoo templates: Zoos & "Zoos of <state>/<province>/<country>" navigation template for zoos (see Category:NA-Class zoo articles for available templates), WAZA for zoo associations, etc.
 • At least one category.
 • Units using convert, building areas are in ft2/m2, and land areas are in acre/ha.
 • WikiProject Zoo on the talk page. It should be left unassessed initially so that someone can take a look at the article.

The following articles have been assessed as good stubs, but could probably be converted to start class articles fairly quickly.

Start-class articles to expand

edit

A C-class article must have all of the qualities of a start-class article listed above, plus:

 • 2-3 paragraph intro that summarizes the article.
 • At least 8-10 footnotes.
 • Basic structure in place. Sections may include History, Exhibits and other facilities, Conservation and education, Events (annual and/or daily), The future.
 • Logo or photo of entrance.
 • At least one additional photo.
 • All rework templates have been addressed and removed.
 • All "fact" (citation needed) requests have been addressed.

The following have been assessed as start-class, but could probably be converted to C-class quickly because they are almost C-class, or because the citations contain a lot of information that could be used to quickly expand the article. This list is incomplete. Please add to it as you find articles that qualify.

Groups of facilities

edit

The following are groups of facilities where all of the facilities in the group need to be looked at, plus probably an article about the chain itself.
