Celtic nations is a great idea. Beautiful icon!--Ipigott (talk) 08:39, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Great! I am hoping that Lajmmoore, Chocmilk03, and Curbon7 will make the Celtic nations meet up page. I will take "Women writers & their works". I plan to get that drafted this evening --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 17:47, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
With ref to our collaboration with WP:WPWW, I couldn't see any ref to them in several years' worth of our Invitations. They do, however, receive our Invitation each month on their Talk page. Great work, @WomenArtistUpdates, on both logo and getting us going again. I'll take on the Alphabet Run this morning. Oronsay (talk) 21:02, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Working on it. Curbon7 (talk) 01:52, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @Curbon7, for your work on Celtic redlists. Oronsay (talk) 06:09, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WomenArtistUpdates, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7 and all WIR helpers: The Event pages are ready for checking. Any suggestions for Tip of the Month? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oronsay (talkcontribs) 12:09, August 22, 2023 (UTC)

Oronsay, WomenArtistUpdates, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7 and all WIR helpers - Do we have a subpage or something like that where we are keeping track of our Tip of the Month (previous ones; potential new ones)? I'm not sure what to suggest for September... --Rosiestep (talk) 19:25, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Me too. I moved it up into the to-do table (with slight expansion for clarity).--WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:05, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe just a wording tweak to "the books she wrote might be notable, too" -- because surely not all books by notable writers are notable enough for their own articles? Penny Richards (talk) 17:08, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
agree with Penny on the rewording. updated invite and list. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 19:23, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
+1. Agree with Penny on rewording the tip. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:47, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Geofocus? edit

There's a suggestion below for Celtic nations from @Curbon7:. Countries in this focus would be Ireland, Wales, Scotland and the regions of Isle of Man, Brittany and Cornwall? There's a red list for Ireland, but otherwise we might need new - or to just dig through the UK and France lists. Lajmmoore (talk) 19:44, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Mass messaging edit

I will struggle to be online to send the Mass Message for the September events - I'm travelling/camping 28/29/30 August. Would someone else be able to do it? Thanks Lajmmoore (talk) 20:57, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oronsay: Can I offer something for the Announcements section? WikiProject Women in Green is hosting their next Good Article (GA) Editathon in October, on the theme of "Around the World in 31 Days" (event page here). Alanna the Brave (talk) 00:13, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, @Alanna the Brave. It's an important annual collaboration that I've now added, above, matching the style of WIR's 2022 October Invitation. Oronsay (talk) 01:19, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Much appreciated. We've started hosting a second GA editathon earlier in the year too (sometimes June or July), but October is definitely the more fixed date for these events. Alanna the Brave (talk) 02:12, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm making a start with the Alphabet Run: G to H. Oronsay (talk) 21:27, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7 and all WIR helpers: It looks like we are good to go with the exception of there being no Tip of the Month. I suggest we leave it off this month and proceed with finalizing the invite. OK? WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 17:34, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • WomenArtistUpdates I really appreciate the progress so far but I've just returned from a day or two away for a family reunion. What's the rush? I've suggested a few tips myself in the past few months but they don't seem to have been noticed (or considered appropriate), no doubt because they were not well placed. In particular, I really think it would be useful to invite contributors to add at least basic details of why they are interested in Women in Red (along with any other useful info) on their user pages. I would suggest something simple like: "Make sure your use page tells us why you are interested in covering women". Other contributors may be able to improve on this. Let's wait a day or two to see if there are any reactions-- Ipigott (talk) 18:09, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Of course Ipigott. Sorry for the pushiness. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:13, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lajmmoore: As far as I can see we're ready to go.--Ipigott (talk) 05:39, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As it's already the 29th, maybe Victuallers can once again send this out, or Megalibrarygirl?--Ipigott (talk) 08:10, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry @Ipigott I'm just doing it now! Lajmmoore (talk) 10:49, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Geofocus ? edit

How does Sub-Saharan Africa sound? Last ran individually in 2018 (Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/83). Could pair well with Women in Stem. Curbon7 (talk) 07:24, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Oronsay and friends. Hope everyone is keeping well. For geo-focus, I was thinking about the fact that the WikiWomen Camp 2023 is taking place in New Delhi in October. It looks like we last did the Indian subcontinent in 2018; I wondered whether it might be good to do a similar geo-focus this month? Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 22:08, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Both ideas good - I've placed them together so all can easily see. Oronsay (talk) 22:14, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Either seems like a great idea! November is the annual Wikipedia Asia Month edit-a-thon, so perhaps Indian Subcontinent may fit better there. Curbon7 (talk) 02:13, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Either seems fine. I would lean towards having the Indian subcontinent in November to coincide with Wikipedia Asia Month and having Sub-Saharan Africa in October. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 15:52, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, @Curbon7, @Curbon7 and @WomenArtistUpdates, for your suggestions. I have added Indian Subcontinent for October and Sub-Saharan Africa for November. Oronsay (talk) 20:49, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, wait Oronsay Curbon7 Chocmilk03...shouldn't that be the other way 'round? India next month and Africa this month? --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 22:50, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, @WomenArtistUpdates@Curbon7@Chocmilk03, my mistake. I will change have changed to: Africa in Oct and India for Nov in WP Asia month. Oronsay (talk) 00:11, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No problems, thanks for sorting! :) Chocmilk03 (talk) 00:32, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

---Good one. I always start there these days and create the article from there - it also shows up more duplicates with its alt names. Victuallers (talk) 17:47, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agree! —Rosiestep (talk) 19:39, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @WomenArtistUpdates for kicking this off. I'll have a crack at Politics. Oronsay (talk) 23:32, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks team! I'll make a start on the Indian subcontinent draft. Wonderful work on the logo, @WomenArtistUpdates. Chocmilk03 (talk) 00:56, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The logo looks good but might be more effective embedded in a heart along the lines of File:WiR_Pride_June_2021_vector.svg.--Ipigott (talk) 05:43, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ipigott, Was this what you had in mind? Agree that it fits better into our "family" of logos. Keep those comments coming! --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:40, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wow that looks great! Curbon7 (talk) 18:43, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fabulous. She is so elegant. Do we have any concerns about using the Indian flag to represent the whole of the Indian subcontinent? I'm hoping the answer will be "No" as the logo looks great as it is, but had to ask the question. Oronsay (talk) 19:27, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Very good question Oronsay. Maybe a work around could be that our tip of the month is The Indian subcontinent includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, as well as the country of India. The event page has red lists for all those countries. Be inspired!
Yes, that is exactly what I had in mind. Great work!--Ipigott (talk) 20:17, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7 and all WIR helpers: Wow, Looks like we are almost there. I think Ipigott suggestion for tip of the month is good. Shall we change that from not ok to OK? Oronsay raised the concern that the logo is India specific, rather than subcontinent. Could our geographic gurus, Chocmilk03 and Curbon7 let us know if it will be OK? Finally, we need a few more pairs of eyes to proof the invitation and the Women in Politics page. Lajmmoore, will you be able to send the invite in the upcoming days? Thanks Penny Richards for setting up the Pinterest page. the October page is very impressive. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:32, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I can send the invite, no problem! Lajmmoore (talk) 07:56, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WomenArtistUpdates: As for the logo, I can see that it's actually based on the flag of India. Would it be too much trouble to use this colourful map as background instead?--Ipigott (talk) 11:08, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Awwww. I have grown quite fond of the India heart. Hoping that the it's OK with the Geo meet-up folk. On an aesthetic level, and in my opinion, the map is too clunky for a small logo. It can be done, but I'd rather not. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 15:48, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just a suggestion. No strong feelings about it and India is certainly the largest country.--Ipigott (talk) 16:20, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@WomenArtistUpdates, I wouldn't call myself a geographic guru :) but to my mind the logo is good (especially as the map is also on the event page). I also liked your suggestion for tip of the month as a further explanation (The Indian subcontinent includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, as well as the country of India. The event page has red lists for all those countries. Be inspired!) ...although I do also like the current option in there about making sure to attribute when translating. Could we do multiple tips...? Chocmilk03 (talk) 03:10, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Chocmilk03 Thanks for chiming in! I think you and Curbon7 are stepping up to make the Geofocus meet-ups happen each month, both topics and creating the pages, so your opinions when the logo is geo-related is important. Let's keep the India heart. And Ipigott's translation tip. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:04, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So Lajmmoore, whenever you're ready.--Ipigott (talk) 16:33, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7 and all WIR helpers: Here's a rough draft of the to-do list. I did not know which way to go...religion, sports, or geofocus. If anyone has a desire to add another NEW meet-up and create the page, jump on in! As always, we are looking for a tip of the month. If there are any announcements of activities outside of WiR that should go in the invite, add those for consideration as well. Heads up to those not in the US, many folks are busy lacing up their running shoes, baking pies, and cleaning for American Thanksgiving. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 02:25, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pulling this together, WomenArtistUpdates. I vote for sports. It's not my cup of tea, but there are some editors who love to join us when we do sports events, and they create a lot of articles. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:05, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Honoured women logo? or a medal?
My only suggestion is Honoured Women - I thought of this as the BBC have announced their 100 women today - and they normally get attention in several languages. Oh and can I second Rosie's thanks and wish all a great xmas and hogmanay. This time last xmas I started to try and do one woman a day .... only a few weeks and I will have done my first complete year. Victuallers (talk) 11:25, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I like the idea of Honoured Women, including BBC 100 Women. There's a heading Accomplishments on our Redlist index which includes crowd-sourced lists of Awards and Fellowships. Also, Sports was one of the events in July this year and took in both summer and winter athletes to avoid bias towards the Northern Hemisphere.[belatedly signed]--Oronsay (talk) 19:17, 23 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also liked Honoured Women! That would give us three main events for the month. I expect that's enough for December? I'm keen to propose a Pasifika women geo-focus event at some point but could leave that for 2024 (maybe Asia and Pacific Islands as per this 2017 meet up). Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 23:25, 23 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Rosiestep, Victuallers, Oronsay, Chocmilk03and all WIR helpers: It looks like Honoured Women has gained the most traction for a third event for December. The two lists suggested are 100 Women (BBC) and Accomplishments any other suggestions? I shall assign it a number and move it up to the to-do list. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 17:48, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @WomenArtistUpdates. Accomplishments has lots of crowd-sourced and Wikidata redlists so there is some variety. I shall start drafting #291 Women who died in 2023. Oronsay (talk) 19:39, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'll take the Alphabet run K & L. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 22:09, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks Victuallers for suggesting Honoured Women. Great idea! (I'll keep the British spelling unless anyone objects). I'll have a go at putting something together on this over the next day or two. Perhaps you or others could help with the redlists and other award sites we should mention. Are there any pages similar to the annual 100 Women (BBC) from other countries?
I see we have WD Laureates, WD listings for state decorations and there are various CS listings for awards including all those mentioned on CS Awards, many of which are for both men and women. Are these appropriate or should we try to emphasize some of those which specifically cover women?--Ipigott (talk) 11:44, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to add to the Redlinks listed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/292.--Ipigott (talk) 12:22, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • WomenArtistUpdates, Oronsay, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, Victuallers, SusunW and any others. I've checked through everything and for me it all seems to be OK. I've also suggested a tip which I think would be useful but you might have alternative suggestions. As the tip often seems to be empty until we have almost finished, it might be an idea to build up a reserve of two or three suggestions for future use. Once the tip has been sorted out/approuved, we can firm up the invitation and send it out. Thanks to all who have helped with these preparations.--Ipigott (talk) 09:32, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • Well done - the tip is fine - and good advice to some post-grads! Victuallers (talk) 14:07, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Then unless anyone wants to make further changes, it looks to me as if we are ready to go.--Ipigott (talk) 15:56, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks to everyone, WomenArtistUpdates, Oronsay, Ipigott, Lajmmoore, Victuallers, SusunW and all others, who built out our December events! And thank you, Ipigott, for bringing up again that, each month, the tip seems to be a decision made late in the process. Maybe we should be asking for more participation with individual tasks on the main WiR talkpage each month as a way of drawing more people into the coordination process. Some editors might feel intimidated to try something new unless they're invited to do so. For example: If one of us (I volunteer for December) starts a conversation on the main WiR talkpage around mid-month regarding, "What are some options for January's tip-of-the-month", maybe additional editors would feel more comfortable making suggestions there. Someone else might ask about other monthly tasks. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:32, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! I woke up this morning and everything's complete. Thanks everyone. May I remind you all that @Rosiestep created a page for Tip of the Month in August. A link to it should be built into the planning for each month's events. Oronsay (talk) 19:14, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Chocmilk03 @Ipigott@Oronsay@Rosiestep@Victuallers@WomenArtistUpdates done! Lajmmoore (talk) 20:28, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • In addition to @Rosiestep's proposed Tip initiative, with 2024 looming, I have just started a discussion on the WiR talkpage about our theme for the year. Hope it garners some ideas.--Oronsay (talk) 19:46, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
