The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (video game) edit

Article recently assessed as A-class with few objections, so there are unlikely to be any significant errors. I'm looking at improving the article further and submitting to FAC if there are no major issues with the article. Any suggestions of tweaks which can be made will be much appreciated. Thanks! • I notice in some of the IGN and GameSpot sources that there are dates, when they were published, i.e. [1] (Posted August 22, 2003). The dates should be added in the citation templates, by adding a date parameter and then the information. Also, I'm not sure if nicknames are appropriate to add, i.e. "Zoop". --The Taerkasten (talk) 21:35, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • The article has serious issues with jargon. Readers should not have to click away from an article to get a basic understanding of what's being discussed; on that note, the gameplay section presumes too much familiarity with the series and hack and slash games in general.
    • Ex. "Described by the developers as a modern version of Gauntlet, The Return of the King is a hack and slash action game.[2] The game is very similar to its predecessor.[3]" So what the hell is a hack and slash game? What predecessor? It's discussed by name (The Two Towers) later on, so why isn't it explicitly stated here?
    • "We are pushing 2x the number of polys & 2x the texture density this year" polys? What is texture density? (Even I, a gamer and dabbler in 3D graphics, have no clue what this means).
    • Those are a small sampling. I suggest that someone who is good with prose and has never played the game (or even a video game) go through it and locate problem areas.
  • Any one or two-sentences quasiparagraphs need to be merged, expanded or cut: by definition, a paragraph needs at least three sentences.

  • "Mac" in the infobox should be changed to the more specific Mac OS X.
  • "Windows" in the "Release date(s)" in the infobox doesn't need to be linked, as it is linked right above there in "Platform(s)".
  • Decapitalize "Hack and slash" in the infobox.
  • "Third-person" in the first sentence of the intro probably doesn't need to be there (seriously, how many first-person hack and slash games are there?) especially when it's linked to third-person shooter (it's not a shooting game).
  • Add a little more about plot in the intro.
  • The Mac OS X version should be noted in the intro.
  • 2003 in video gaming should not be linked.
  • Don't call the GBA version a "hack and slash role-playing game" right after calling the main game simply "hack and slash". The dual meaning of "hack and slash" makes it confusing, so simply remove the second instance.
  • Also, Role-playing game (video games) was fairly recently moved to [[Role-playing video game], so you may want to update the link.
  • The GBA version is not mentioned throughout the entire article aside from the introduction. Add a section about it in Gameplay, or create a separate article. At the very least, mention it in Reception as it's probably very different from the other versions (especially because it's an RPG).
  • North America in Development should not be linked.
  • The names of websites, i.e. GameSpot, IGN, GameZone, etc., should not be italicized, although it's correct for magazine sources such as Game Informer.
  • All review scores, if the review gives one, should be in the review box. For example: GameSpy and Game Informer.
  • The Internet Movie Database is not a reliable source as designated by WP:VG/RS.
  • In Reception, "Electronic Arts" should be spelled out rather than abbreviated.
  • You might consider linking "video game tie-in" in the same sentence to the appropriate article: Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie. Tezero (talk) 22:52, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
