Final Fantasy VIII edit

I believe this article is almost ready for featured status. Ryu and myself have worked on it for the last twelve hours or so, yielding significant improvement. What do you guys think? — Deckiller 01:59, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I got nothing. The plot section is a little dense, but that seems to be the norm. Nifboy 20:40, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Moreover, it is a 40 hour-long game, with a detailed story, so it is difficult to provide a general summary without spending time describing key events (unlike, say, FFIV, which is just a "gather the crystals and go to the moon" type plot). — Deckiller 20:44, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

--- Final Fantasy VIII is a further development of the RPG engine seen in its series predecessor Final Fantasy VII, and comprises three main modes of play: the world map screen, a fully 3D visual display in which the player may navigate freely across a scaled-down rendering of the game world; the field map screen, consisting of one or more 2D pre-rendered backgrounds that serve to represent environmental locations such as towns and some forests, with overlaid 3D characters under the player's control; and the battle map screen, a fully 3D visual of a discrete location such as a street or room, where a fight between the player and CPU-controlled enemy parties takes place. Dear god; I thought I split that sentence up TWICE. — Deckiller 02:11, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I had to play the "find the semicomma" minigame to read that sentence. I did some copyedit work on the lead — look it over and make sure I didn't mess anything up, I'm getting tired. I didn't do anything to the last sentence of the lead, but it needs work; it's not informative to the casual reader and needs to flow better in the paragraph. Pagrashtak 02:35, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What is this sentence trying to say? Final Fantasy VIII is a further development of the RPG engine seen in its series predecessor Final Fantasy VII,... That the FFVIII engine is based on the FFVII engine?

Yeah, I always had an issue with that sentence. I tried to change it for clarity, but it may still sound awkward. — Deckiller 03:15, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Does Image:Ff8sd.jpg need fair use rationale?--ZeWrestler Talk 15:22, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's alright now. — Deckiller 18:58, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, major overhauls yesterday — any further comments? — Deckiller 18:58, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If there are no further comments, I'll go ahead and nominate this for FAC in 48 hours. I believe Silence plans on a copyedit first. — Deckiller 02:49, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think there should be a "Differences between PlayStation and PC versions" section? Aside from Chocobo World, the graphics on the PC are obviously smoother, and some of the sound effects are slightly altered. --Tristam 17:25, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That seems reasonable. If not an entire subsection, it's worth a mention in the Development header. ~ Hibana 22:42, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'll see if I can work it in somehow. Ryu Kaze 02:33, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And done. Check the Development section. Ryu Kaze 02:59, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Very nice. I fixed some wording, but I'm not sure if the date is correct. — Deckiller 03:13, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The year is correct, if that's what you mean. Ryu Kaze 13:44, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nicely done, Ryu and Deckiller. I see you were able to cover both of my concerns in one fell swoop. :) --Tristam 20:45, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly, we are getting more comments about the article on the talk page, which is not a bad thing, but it's showing how obsolete this review is, overall. — Deckiller 06:52, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll move this article to FAC in about six hours if there are no further objections. — Deckiller 21:00, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
