Victoria's short lines edit

Lines with 1-2 passenger stations/sidings off another line. I am now a little unsure whether on not some are now notable enough for their own articles:

  •   Yes Albion–Jacana (freight line) - Forms part of the North East standard gauge (Sydney–Melbourne) and Melbourne Airport rail link. Forms useful infrastructure, notable.
  •   Yes Alexandra (2 stations) - There should be enough information to have a separate article, notable.
  •   Not sure. Ballarat Cattle Yards (& Redan line) (2 sidings) - Unsure if notable enough
  •   No Ballarat Racecourse (1 station) - include on Waubra line
  •   Not sure. Barry Beach (1 siding) - Some information (is it enough?). Unsure if notable enough (similar to Spring Vale Cemetery, Mont Park, Broadstore, Fyansford (broad gauge) lines)
  •   Not sure. Broadstore (1 siding) - Not much information. Unsure if notable enough. Could keep on Craigieburn railway line or on Maygar Barracks (similar to Spring Vale Cemetery, Mont Park, Barry Beach, Fyansford (broad gauge) lines)
  •   Yes Deer Park–West Werribee (2 stations, more proposed) - Complex issue. Wyndham Vale service also currently part of Geelong/Warrnambool service. Keep as is for now (review after potential rerouting of Geelong/Warrnambool via Werribee).
  •   Yes Fyansford (Broad gauge) / Fyansford Cement Works Railway (Narrow gauge) - Broad & narrow gauge lines can be covered on the Fyansford Cement Works Railway company page, notable. (similar to Spring Vale Cemetery, Mont Park, Barry Beach, Broadstore lines)
  •   Not sure. Grampians (2 stations) - Unsure if notable enough
  •   Yes Kew (2 stations) - There is enough information to have a separate article, notable.
  •   Yes Melbourne Airport (2 stations) - Major construction project, notable.
  •   Not sure. Mont Park (1 siding) - Some information (is it enough?) or merge into Mont Park Asylum. Unsure if notable enough (similar to Spring Vale Cemetery, Barry Beach, Broadstore, Fyansford (broad gauge) lines)
  •   Yes Newport–Sunshine (freight line) - Forms part of the Western standard gauge (Melbourne–Adelaide)
  •   No Penshurst-Dunkeld (0 stations) - include on Hamilton–Koroit railway line
  •   Yes South Kensington–West Footscray (freight line) - Forms part of the North East standard gauge (Sydney–Melbourne) and Western standard gauge (Melbourne–Adelaide)
  •   Yes Spring Vale Cemetery (1 station) - There is enough information to have a separate article or it could be on Springvale Botanical Cemetery (similar to Mont Park, Barry Beach, Broadstore, Fyansford (broad gauge) lines)
  •   Yes St Kilda – Windsor (0 stations) - Not normally notable, but forms an important part of the early years of the railways, so it is notable.
  • Tourist railways - as they also cover a company, these are notable.
  •   Not sure. Webb Dock/Melbourne docks lines - Proposals to reopen as a tram, could be a separate article or combined article for the docks (Swanston, Appleton, etc)
  •   Not sure. Wedderburn (1 station) - Open for 99 years 7 months. Unsure if notable enough
  •   Not sure. Welshpool Jetty (1 station) - Unsure if notable enough for own article. It should not be on the Port Albert line as it was a different gauge horse tram, maybe the Port Welshpool page?
  • Yallourn railway line (Broad gauge) / Yallourn 900 mm railway (Narrow gauge) - Unlike the Fyansford Cement Works Railway, these broad & narrow gauge lines should not be covered in one article.
    •   Yes Yallourn (multiple broad gauge siding for 1 location) - Complex group of siding the served the Yallourn Power Station, I suggest keeping as a separate article
    •   Yes Yallourn 900 mm railway - Treat it as a company (as is done with the Fyansford Cement Works Railway), notable

The short 1 stop branch lines edit

The Barry Beach, Broadstore, Fyansford (Broad gauge), Mont Park, Spring Vale Cemetery, Wedderburn, Welshpool Jetty lines all are similar in that the have only one location (station/siding) on them. Do we have these as:

  1. Separate article? (Enough information & notable)
  2. Section on the parent line's article? (Not enough information or not notable)
  3. Section on the article about the company/location it serves? (Not enough information but notable)

I'd like some feedback for how to proceed with the following. It would be nice to be consistent with how these are portrayed.

@ThylacineHunter even if they are very small lines, there is notability. I think that all lines should have a page and all of these pages should be on the Victorian railway lines template. These articles for the lines are important as they would have the station tables that would mention stations that aren't notable enough for their own article. If a station is notable, then it would be created and linked to the line page. What do you think? HoHo3143 (talk) 09:13, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ThylacineHunter to begin the 20th century history part of the article, I'm going to need your opinion on what I've proposed here. HoHo3143 (talk) 13:06, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Out of the 6 other short lines:
  • 4 already have their own page (Barry Beach, Mont Park, Spring Vale Cemetery, Welshpool Jetty).
  • 2 should have pages to fix issues...
    • Fyansford - not covered anywhere and redirects to the wrong place (Fyansford Cement Works Railway).
    • Wedderburn - seems to but a mix-up with Wedderburn and Wedderburn Junction stations.
For Broadstore, I think due to the lack of information of the "line" to keep it as it is like with the Upfield-Somerton link. Later we can make a page for Broadstore as a station and cover the line layout and platforms.
You will also need to mention on the Hurstbridge page about the APM siding branch (I forgot it is also a 1 stop branch) . -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 23:57, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've made a mention of the AMP siding branch in the 20th century history part of the Hurstbridge line. I'd like to at least try and make a stub article for the Broadstore line. I can do some basic information on the line and you can add the track map, infobox, and station history table to the article (and hopefully a bit more information). This'll mean continuity with the all lines having a page idea and that the Craigieburn article doesn't have excessive information about the branch, and I only have to add a 2 sentence mention like the hurstbridge line. What do you think? HoHo3143 (talk) 09:16, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now that you've done the "Stations / Sidings" subheading in this talk page I will go ahead to do what I've said above. HoHo3143 (talk) 04:59, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The stub should be Broadstore Siding (as is done with APM Siding). Unfortunately the only info I can find is already covered on the Craigieburn page. The only real benefit of a separate article is being able to show a diagram of the track layout. The infobox will be very basic, and their would be no need of a station history table as the infobox would cover it. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 05:00, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think that would be fine. I could try and do a bit more digging to create the stub. I'll start working on its shortly, and let you know when you can add the infobox and other bits. HoHo3143 (talk) 05:03, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd wait until after all the Metro lines are done, and do them as you do the closed metro area lines. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 05:09, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to go ahead and do it now instead. Once I finish the metro articles, I'm going to be moving onto the regional services. I personally don't find stations and lines that have closed to be particularly interesting, so I'll quickly create the Broadstore article now so its out of the way. HoHo3143 (talk) 07:01, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've gone ahead and created the new article. When you're able to, please add an infobox, track diagram, and any other information that you may find. HoHo3143 (talk) 11:38, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
