Williamson and Pond Creek Railroad

Location and General Description of Property

The railroad of Williamson and Pond Creek Railroad Company, herein called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located in the States of Kentucky and West Virginia. The owned mileage extends in a southerly direction from Williamson, W.Va., to McVeigh, Ky., 12.047 miles, with branch lines extending from Toler to Hardy, Ky., and from Pinson Junction, Ky., to certain coal operations within that State, totaling 3.282 miles. The length of the main line and branches is 15.329 miles. The carrier also owns yard and side tracks totaling 19.640 miles. Its road thus embraces 34.969 miles of all tracks owned, of which 34.854 miles are in Kentucky and 0.115 mile in West Virginia, all of the latter being main-line track.

Corporate History

The carrier was incorporated March 14, 1912, under the laws of Kentucky. It has the same general officers as the Norfolk and Western Railway Company. The detailed facts as to the development of the fixed physical property are given in Appendix 2.

Development of Fixed Physical Property

The property was constructed partly by contract and partly by the carrier's forces, with funds furnished by the Norfolk and Western. It was formally opened to traffic on June 30, 1913.

Leased Railway Property

The carrier uses jointly with the Norfolk and Western the latter's station and yard facilities, together with about 0.5 mile of track at Williamson. For the year ended on date of valuation, the carrier paid $3,291.58 as rental for the use of these facilities.
