The Warren Railroad

Location and General Description of Property

The railroad of The Warren Railroad Company, hereinafter called the Warren Railroad, is located within the State of New Jersey and extends from Hampton Junction to the New Jersey-Pennsylvania State line, a distance of 18.827 miles. For a distance of 13.804 miles between Washington and its western terminus the line is double-tracked and forms a part of the Lackawanna's main line to Buffalo.

Introductory

The Warren Railroad is a corporation of the State of New Jersey, having its principal office in New York, N. Y. The accounting records of this company do not include the results of its corporate operations. The records reviewed do not indicate that the Warren Railroad is controlled by any individual or corporation, nor, on the other hand, that it controls any common-carrier corporation. The property of the Warren Railroad was operated by the Lackawanna from the date of completion to December 31, 1917. From that date until date of valuation it has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration as a part of the operating unit of the Lackawanna.

Corporate History

The Warren Railroad was incorporated February 12, 1851, by special act of the State of New Jersey. The date of its organization was March 4, 1853.

Development of Fixed Physical Property

The owned mileage of the company, extending from the New Jersey-Pennsylvania State line to Hampton Junction, N. J., 18.827 miles, was acquired by construction which was commenced in June, 1853, and completed for operation with the aid of a temporary track over Van Ness Gap tunnel, on May 28, 1856. In September, 1862, the tunnel was completed and the temporary track removed.

Leased Railway Property

The entire property of the Warren Railroad is leased to the Lackawanna for the term of its corporate existence from October 1, 1857.
