Recurring tasks

edit

Archiving

edit
Purpose: Manual archiving keeps the structure in the archive.
If dropped: We need to investigate if we can use a bot.

What's New

edit
Purpose: Make it easy for members to see what's going on
If dropped: Members have to filter the chaff from the wheat in the project and talk history or miss changes

Whenever there was a major change, such as a new member or a new discussion, I added it in What's New. This may be a bit too difficult for some members since I kept this in table format. If we want to keep it simpler then I could remove the table.

Adding our banner

edit
Purpose: Make others aware of our project
If dropped: No major consequences

Whenever a page gets into the focus of our project, Banner WPSLR should be added to its talk page. It is recommended to enter the page also right away in Wikipedia:WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation/scope.

Watchlists

edit
Purpose: Help members see what's going on in our scope
If dropped: We will be less able to react and may even become inactive in our core area

Wikipedia:WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation/scope should contain all articles, categories and templates in our scope. The best way to make sure this is the case is by comparing the page with Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Banner_WPSLR.

Wikipedia:WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation/scope should contain all pages of our project. The best way to make sure this is the case is by adding a page here whenever a new page in our project has been added.

New users

edit
Purpose: Advertize our project
If dropped: People will be less aware of it; this hampers our effort at getting our proposals accepted. Especially new editors may resort to edit wars instead of following our advice. It also will hamper our membership growth.

Greet newbies with Welcome SLR and others with

When a member applied

edit
Purpose: Making it easier for others to vote
If dropped: Fewer people may vote
  1. Check background (Has member violated policies recently?)
  2. Add to Wikipedia:WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation/whatsnew:
    1. Add this to the table header:
! New membership application
    1. And this to table body:
|
* Neuralolive
  1. Don't forget to vote!

48 hours after an application

edit
Purpose: Obvious - accepting and welcoming a new member
If dropped: If we dropped this, we'd have to drop the whole membership application process. The alternative is for people to just sign up, like in many other WikiProjects.

They always have been accepted, so this only covers that case.

  1. Add that the vote has been closed and archive it.
  2. Add new member to member table on WP:SLR#Members.
  3. Welcome new member on their talk page:
Welcome to WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation!
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our project. Here's an overview of what's currently going on there:

closing votes

edit
Purpose: Reaching a conclusion
If dropped: Votes that are not closed are frustrating

adding voting results to WP:SLR

edit
Purpose: Accruing a set of recommendations
If dropped: It will be much harder for everyone to refer to our recommendations

Classification of sources

edit

To add a new source to our List of sources proceed as follows:

  1. Start a new topic about that source on WT:SLR (Usually, we simply enter the official name as a title for the section).
  2. Copy the following text to the end of the table at List of sources, and replace the green cursive placeholders as appropriate:
    |-
    | Official Name
    | name.org
    | UnclasS
    |
    | WT:SLR#Official Name
  3. When the discussion reached a conclusion (that is, a decision whether it is RS, QS, or unreliable, and how to attribute it, if it is a QS), then resolve as follows:
    1. Resolve discussion by adding ~~~~~ under the section headline.
    2. Write results of discussion in table.
  4. After at least 24 hours, archive as follows:
    1. Move discussion to archive as usual.
    2. Update link in the table to point to archived discussion.
