English translation of a Burmese folksong about a snake marriage edit

  • Dennis, Reginald Burton (R.B.D.). "Twenty Burmese songs: translation and notes". In: Journal of the Burma Research Society 33 (1950): 169-195.

For King Iguana and The Story of the Hamadryad. The text of the song (in prose form) matches other Burmese/Southeast Asian variants of the story (girl marries snake husband, burns his snake skin; sisters try to get rid of her by tossing her in the sea from a swing; girl is rescued by bird). I'm asking to the see the context of the song and the notes provided by Reginald Burton Dennis after the text (the text being on pp. 188-189).

British Medical Journal book review edit

"Britain's Einstein, book review of The Strangest Man, a biography of Paul Dirac arguing that Dirac probably had autism. I'd appreciate if someone could tell me the general tone of the review, and the gist of what it says about the book's theories about Dirac's possible autism. I'm not too concerned about how it reviews other aspects of the book, unless it says something surprising.

For The Strangest Man and maybe Paul Dirac.

Source for focal seizure symptoms edit

General request, not for any specific paper/book/etc, so let me know if I'm in the wrong place - I'm trying to improve the focal seizure article, specifically the simple partial seizure presentation section. The entire lists of symptoms are uncited, and I haven't found any source for specifically the "while-asleep symptoms include" list. Any help finding a source for this would be great.

Since we're still waiting on the Bonmariage source, can I get some help to try to solve a mystery? Kusma found this which might be the 1892 portrait of Dumont, Christie's supposedly sold in 2010. The Christie's page says it is confirmed in Dortu, volume 2 on pages 279 and 461, but Archive.org only has vols 4, 5, and 6. Google books hits on volume 2, but when you pull it up it is vol 1. Worldcat doesn't show any open access volumes. Christie's shows alternative verification in Tout l'œuvre peint de Toulouse-Lautrec, which is on Hathitrust, but locked, so cannot see p. 113 and Toulouse-Lautrec by G. Néret has no on-line version that I can find. Any chance someone can find Dortu, volume 2?

Thanks! SusunW (talk) 23:42, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing this one isn't going to get found, so I'll mark it as {{resolved}} SusunW (talk) 06:15, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A bigger issue is citing a breaking news article for an (alleged?) massacre that happened this long ago. Articles about this conflict can and should be written based on scholarly sources given the issues with breaking news. Buidhe public (talk) 06:48, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Probably will need inter-library loan. edit

For Katarina Bogdanović On the second source, neither the German or Serbian WP articles indicates a volume number. The Serbian article lists pages in the ref section, so I have shown those above. A search for the book produces nada for me except the locked google profile. There is a Scribd link to Part 1 and you can see from the 10 names listed in the table of content, she isn't one of them, which is why I am fairly certain she is in Part 2. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, SusunW (talk) 16:00, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I just found a reference that confirms my suspicion that the second source is in volume 2 and it says the chapter on Bogdanović is on pages 13–20. SusunW (talk) 17:51, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Napoleon says Since his death, many towns, streets, ships, and even cartoon characters have been named after him. He has been portrayed in hundreds of films and discussed in hundreds of thousands of books and articles. This statement relies on this book and two IMDB pages. Could someone consult the book (page 13) and see if everything's in this source, so the IMDB pages can be cut?

@Doc Taxon, would you please try this one? Dympies (talk) 11:32, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Dympies: Are you looking for the table "The Indian Salute States in Local Order of Precedence, 1931"? If so, would the one from the 1984 edition suffice? Judging from the three pages visible in the Google Books preview of the 1998 edition linked above, the information in the 1984 edition is the same, it just starts at a different page number and, because it's printed in small type, fits on two pages. Email me if you want it. --Worldbruce (talk) 05:58, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Beethoven reference in Michelmore biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer edit

For J. Robert Oppenheimer

If someone has a copy of "The Swift Years", Peter Michelmore's biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer, I'd appreciate if they could look up Beethoven in the index. That should point to a page somewhere close to the end of the book, that says something about Beethoven. Specifically, if the book is the one I think that I remember, it says Oppenheimer and his students liked listening to a particular Beethoven composition. It wouldn't surprise me if it was one of the late string quartets, given various other woo-woo Oppie was involved with.

Could someone check this for me, and maybe let me know what composition it was? There is no need to scan the page or anything. No I'm not trying to use the info in the Oppenheimer article. I basically want to know whether I'm confusing this book with a different one. If it's the one I'm thinking of, my physics teacher recommended it to me quite a few years ago, so I'll try to get a copy and use it as a general purpose source for the article.

There is a scanned copy of the book in archive.org's digital lending program, but it relies on some kind of in-browser DRM that the browser I use doesn't support and which I find obnoxious in principle. But it might be a convenient way to access the book if you use DRM anyway.

It's String Quartet No. 14 (Beethoven). The book mentions he and his student listening to it, as well as it being played at his funeral. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 03:10, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
