Some points:

The aftermath section needs citing and probably expanding given the size of the article. What happened politically, expand a bit more for those people not knowledgable on the American Civil War
I would completely remove the Popular culture section, it is uncited and adds nothing to the article.
The last paragraph in the lead is not covered in the article, perhaps expand on it in the aftermath section.
What were the casualties on the Union side?
Some of the prose is very choppy in places, it needs a good copyedit.
It needs some more citations in places. There are some "contentious" statements which need citing.
