What will we do/cover at this edit-a-thon? edit

At this edit-a-thon we will focus on adding Health Evidence from systematic reviews to Wikipedia medical articles. This workshop will give you a quick introduction to how Wikipedia works its philosophy/values and a quick demo of editing articles. We shall show you how to register, create your user page, make the edit you wish to, cite/reference your sources. We shall also discuss a few good practices/manners, show you how to resolve doubts or conflicts on the talk pages and in process help you make your first edit(if you haven't done so already).

Activity Brief edit

Before the Event

1. Register on Wikipedia - Please use the information provided here(http://www.wikihow.com/Create-an-Account-in-Wikipedia). Keep a note of your username and send it to us after you complete your registration.

2. Find a systematic review of interest to you - You have been reading up different systematic reviews in your areas of interest. Select one in a particular topic area. It would be easier if you took a review looking at a niche area, like Giardiasis so that your next step would be easy. You would not like to take up a topic like Malaria, where the corresponding Wikipedia article is very complex.

3. Identify corresponding Wikipedia articles where the review could contribute as Evidence - You would need to find a Wikipedia article in a topic related to the PICO of the systematic review. For example for a systematic review about interventions for Giardiasis, the following would be good Wikipedia articles:

You can search for such articles using your PICO from the systematic review either on Google or on Wikipedia itself.

4. Check if evidence is missing - You need to check if your systematic review is already cited in the Wikipedia article. You can do this by going through the references section(at the bottom of each article). If it is already referenced, it would be good to go to the corresponding section in the article and verify the accuracy of the cited content. If it is already accurate, or if there is nothing more to add, you need to find another article.

5. Visualize the change - Take some time and think about the edit that you would like to make to the Wikipedia article you have selected. Write the change down and we shall discuss it at the Edit-a-thon. We are not looking for any elaborate changes. We are hoping to do simple one-three sentence additions or changes to the existing articles.

8. Group work Editing Wikipedia(30mins)- You split into groups of 2 working on a systematic review or a group of systematic reviews. You decide on the best edit and make the edit on Wikipedia. Facilitators will come around and help out if you have any problems

9. Discussing the edits(30mins + ) - Each group comes up and we discuss the edits made by each group. The group is expected to go back and make corresponding improvements to the article.
