An Easy Guide To Assessment

If you are new to assessment in WikiProject India, this article should help you.

In Part 1 of the Guide, you learned about how to assess articles using the Wikiproject India talk page template and by filling in the two parameters - "class" and "importance". Part 2 of this Guide showed you how to add more functionality to the template while assessing an article. If this is incorporated, a single assessment becomes very useful for sorting and earmarking of articles by means of categories.

This part, Part 3 of the Guide, deals with the AutoWikiBrowser, a semi-automated Windows tool for technically adept editors, while Part 4 deals with the Assessment Bar, a simple script-based tool which makes assessment easier for technically-challenged editors.

Adding importance using AWB

There are lot of articles assessed without importance. To make a semi-automated assessment, install and make use of AutoWikiBrowser(AWB). The easiest option is to use the Kingbotk plugin to speed up assessments. Alternatively you can use Search and Replace :

• Load the list of unassessed articles of unknown importance.
• Convert the list to talk page using List -> Convert to talk page
• Uncheck the auto tag, apply general fixes, unicodify whole page
• Click on Enabled Find and Replace in options menu and click on advanced setting.

Steps for Search and Replace.

• Enabled — If checked will enable Normal, Advanced, and subst: find and replace.

• Normal settings — Opens the AWB Normal Find and replace.

• Advanced settings — Opens the AWB Advanced Find and replace.

• Template substitution — Opens AWB substitute templates. Allows you to Substitute templates you chose. This is a more convenient and reliable way than simply entering regexes in Find and replace — AWB will automatically generate regexes.

• Skip if no replacements — If this box is checked, the page will be skipped if no changes were made by any of the find and replace features (Normal, Advanced and, subst:).
• Skip if only minor replacement made — If this box is checked, the page will be skipped if the only changes made were marked as minor in the Normal Find and Replace.

• Choose the different patterns/rules based on the assessed talk page contents and replace with the contents adding relevant importance.
