Discussion edit

Most of the conventional wheelchairs use the joystick as the user input mode. The drawback of joystick control is that it is not suitable for physically disabled person who cannot control its movement with their hands. We present an intelligent wheelchair robot whose motion can be controlled by the user's voice which is detected by a mobile phone. It can recognize the user's voice and can move according to the destination given by the user.. This project is intended to help the disabled person to move without external guidance with the help of the automated wheelchair. We contributed in enhancing the automation to the system that can scan all the locations in a given building, and then take its occupant to a given place in response to a verbal command. The voice command would activate the chair, causing it to move towards the destination and the user could simply sit back and relax as the chair moves from one place to another based on a map stored in its memory. The modules used are mobile phone (with Bluetooth technology), IR transmitter and receiver, servo motor interface, ultrasonic obstacle detector and a voice recognition kit. Thus the wheelchair is user-friendly and cost effective.
