This WikiProject covers topics around contemporary music of Africa such as artists from Africa, their albums and songs along with any other related topics. We estimate that less than 2 percent of articles about musicians on Wikipedia cover contemporary African musicians and their contributions.[1] But this is a major field of documentation in both the Music realm and the realm of coverage about the African continent.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] There is a category list of African musicians in Wikipedia but of those 42 names many listed are ancestors.[13] It is the objective of this group to make deep impact in this area on Wikipedia; we will edit existing articles, create new ones, add to the category list, work with WikiData and WikiCommons in addition to Wikipedia to help flesh out a deeper knowledge of Contemporary musical artists in Africa. This project is supported in part by Black Lunch Table and Mount Makeda through collaborative work on training editors and photographers as well as organizing and collaborating.Heathart (talk) 17:36, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
This subject lands equally in Music and Africa realms. Nesting this scope in one or the other would be misleading for the other's scope and therefore not yield editors who are actually interested in our objectives of expanding this focused scope. Black Lunch Table was the project that helped light the fire for this project but we are outside the scope of the Black Lunch Table. Wikipedia is in need of improvement in the scope of this project, we are willing and eager to help and to teach others how to help as well. Creating our own new user group will give the emphasis we need on this scope, the clarity for new users to find us and the autonomy to dive deep and create our own plans.
